Week 283 – July 30th, 2016

Are there really reasons that you could have fewer songs about summer? I think no! This week’s edition shows again three summer songs in my Top 10, another song from Amazon’s playlist “Songs of summer” reached the Top 10 and a top debut from Austria which also has the summer in the title. The highest charting theme song is Kate Voegele’s “Must be summertime” (#2) which climbed up one spot, but failed to replace Adele’s “Water under the bridge” (#1) at #1. Also up one spot is country song “Summer” (#5) by Cassadee Pope. One more climb up by “Summer” and Cassadee Pope is matching or surpass the peak by “I wish I could break your heart”. Caught between these two summer songs are “Run away together” (#3) by Anouk and “Hungover on heartache” (#4) by Cam.

The last but not the least song about summer in this week’s Top 10 is the cover “The boys of summer” (#6). In its 8th week LOLO missed the Top 5 by one spot. I see the summer vibe in the next week’s Top 5 with three or more songs about summer. In the shadow of “The boys of summer” Swedish singer Miriam Bryant did well with a climb of two spots with her recent hit single “Black car” (#7). Not far behind is “Weekend” (#9) by The Kin. Their song has been released on “Songs of summer” and is now the third song from this Amazon playlist/album in my Top 10. While these songs climbed up two former #1’s have to drop. Austrian hit song “Seite an Seite” (#8) by Christina Stürmer dropped three spots and country song “Church bells” (#10) by Carrie Underwood – who by the way is debuting with two more songs from her album “Storyteller” – dropped three spots.

With this edition Austrian singer Julian Le Play is jumping on the train too and presents his latest single “Du schmeckst nach Sommer” (#13, “You taste of summer”). Some weeks ago he released the lyric video to this latest single, but I didn’t payed a lot of attention to this song. The reason why is simple. He hadn’t big success on my chart. Before “Du schmeckst nach Sommer” he placed five songs on my chart with “Der Wolf” (“The wolf”) peaking at #19 as his biggest hit back in 2013. It took him nearly three years to reach the Top 20 again and how! “Du schmeckst nach Sommer” debuts directly in the Top 20 at #13 and should reach my Top 10 by next week. Maybe this song has everything to go all the way to #1, but we all have to wait to see if this will happen.

For the 2nd best new entry you’ve to look outside the Top 50. Once more it is no song in English. The song I’m writing about is the latest single by German band Sportfreunde Stiller. Over the years they had some big hits in Germany and my home country including “Applaus, Applaus” (“Applause, applause”) which only peaked at #91 – maybe a little bit underrated – on my chart. Their new song “Raus in den Rausch” (#56, “Out in the rapture”) got a solid debut and is a possible Top 30 hit. “Raus in den Rausch” is followed by the next debut which came from Spanish singer Manú. Her song “Caos” (#57) is her first song her debut on my chart.

Other debuts are “What I never knew I always wanted” (#81) and “Smoke break” (#90) by Carrie Underwood, “Waun du bei mir bist” (#87, “When you’re with me”) by Lisi Dorn, “Meilenweit” (#88, “For miles”) by Vanessa Mai, “Fantasy” (#89) by Fei, “Bulletproof” (#94) by Young Guns, “Out of my system” (#97) by Youngr and “Sandcastles” (#98) by Adam Jensen.
