Week 789 – April 18th, 2026

This week I had been in Poland to visit Auschwitz with a group of our students for the fourth time. The time to listen to music was limited, but I listened to the new Ella Langley album “Dandelion”. This album is more on the traditional side. Although I enjoyed the album I’m not as enthusiastic as with her debut album. Then I checked out the new album by Holly Humberstone. I really liked it, but it is also not as good as her debut one. The third album I checked out had been the soundtrack to the Chinese Drama series “Love between lines” I’m currently watching. As I’m not a big fan of the Chinese language there are three songs I really like and they should debut next week.

So, let’s go back to this week’s – my birthday edition – chart. Still charting topping is “Dance alone” (#1) by Zior Park. It’s the longest run at the top for a song from a Soundtrack. Holding its spot too is former #1 “To love somebody” (#2) by Holly Humberstone. This song is caught between songs from the soundtrack “Can this love be translated?” as “Daydream” (#3) by Wendy is also non-moving. Returning into the Top 5 is former #1 “Fremdknutschen” (#4, “Snog someone else”) Anaïs. This is surprising as I haven’t seen this coming. Surely a strong bounce back. Down one is “Elizabeth Taylor” (#5) by Taylor Swift.

Dropping out of the Top 5 is Country Pop song “Blame it on my broken heart” (#6) by Avery Anna. Next in line is the first Japanese song which made it into my Top 10. Ayane released this song back in 2024 and in Japan it did well among the TikTok bubble. Like Chinese Japanese isn’t a language I really enjoy listening especially in music. You can say that reaching the Top 10 with “ごめんね“ (#7, “I’m sorry”) is very strong. Maybe she will be a one-hit-wonder for me, but as it is my chart and my taste in music I don’t care. I love this song! Even the top spot of the chart is within reach after entering the Top 10. Also new in this part is “Like you better” (#8) by fromis_9. This one is catchy and is now the third highest ranked song from South Korea on my chart. One spot behind is the fourth highest ranked song from this country. It is izna’s “SIGN” (#9). Rounding out this week’s Top 10 is the third new song in this part. It is “Nirgendwen” (#10, “No one”) by Esther Graf x Ness.

Outside the Top 10 Nina Chuba’s run with “Unsicher” (#48, “Insecure”) is near its end. In its 54th week on chart this song dropped out of the Top 40 for the first time. Maybe next week will be the songs last week on my chart. Since 2017 it has become my 4th most played song behind “Nothing breaks like a heart” by Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus, “Higher love” by Kygo & Whitney Houston and “Stop me from falling” by Kylie Minogue.

This week’s greatest gainer is “Goodbyes and sad eyes” (#57) by Moon Byul (Member of Mamamoo) after climbing up 16 spots. Directly behind you can find the highest debut which is “Moonlight” (#58) by Jung Soyeon (Member of Laboum). This one could be a big hit for me as I haven’t seen such a high debut when I first listened to this song. Next in line is the 2nd best debut. It’s another single from PAENDA’s EP “Too young to fell old, too old to feel young”. “Better days” is in at #59.
