Week 809 – September 5th, 2026

Today I’m late with my review, but that is when live happens. Last week South Korean singer Yuna topped the chart with “Ice cream” (#1) for the first time. This week she defended the crown. In general parts of the chart haven’t been very active. The whole Top 5 is the same as last week. This brings in at the runner’s up spot “Look at my life” (#2) by Gracie Abrams. She is followed by another K-Pop song. “Lemonade” (#3) by aespa is holding its spot as “Bed on fire” (#4) by G Flip. Not leaving the Top 5 is former #1 “Moonlight” (#5) by Jung Soyeon.

Up one spot is “Lemon tang” (#6) by Hearts2Hearts. I see a chance for reaching the Top 5 by next week, but German singer LEA with “Chemie” (#7) is also in the hunt. Down two spots is former #1 “キミがいないと” (#8, “Without you”) by Ayane – 8 weeks in the Top 10. Here I’m not sure if it will stay as long in the Top 10 as her other #1 hit “ごめんね” (#26, “I’m sorry”) which spent 14 weeks in the Top 10. One spot down is Austrian singer Bibiza with his summer hit “Soda Zitron” (#9, “Lemon soda”). “Rivers” (#10) by Rea Garvey & Imran is rounding out this week’s Top 10.

The greatest gainer of the week is the album cut “Cool” (#56) from “The secret of us” by Gracie Abrams. This one is not far behind this week’s highest debuts. One song debuted in the Top 50. The other one missed it by one spot. The Top 50 debut goes to KATSEYE. Here I’m not charting their smash “Animal” as I don’t like it. Debuting is “Hootie Frutti” (#50). One spot behind you can find YENA – originally from Iz*One. She had some smaller hits before, but surprisingly she debuts now with her hit song “Catch catch” (#51). For me personally it’s a surprise as with the first listen I decided that I don’t like this song. The refrain is catchy and over the last week I heard the refrain very often. Then I gave this one a chance now it’s the 2nd best debut and the highest from a K-Pop artist.

The next highest debut is “Mama’s boy” (#59) by Ally Shen. This one popped up on my start page on YouTube, as I’m not following music from Taiwan or China it was a surprise for me. On the other hand Ally Shen grew in Germany so it is not a very big surprise as artists from Germany or with a German background randomly are popping up here. The musical style of the song reminds me to songs from Avril Lavigne. The lyrics are very funny. I personally don’t understand Chinese although my six-year-old nephew thought me the Taiwanese numbers at the beginning of this summer. Some of these are hard to pronounce (you only need to know zero to ten), but as mathematician these are easy to remember because the rest is very easy to build.

Other debuts are “Happy ever after all” (#70), “Voicemail” (#71) all by Knox, “Losing me in you” (#88) by Onoleigh, “Boston” (#89) by Stella Lefty, “The crowd was singing wonderwall” (#90) by The Script, “The symphony of fxxkboys” (#91) by Whee In – from Mamamoo, “Typical” (#92) by neu, “$TAY THE NIGHT” (#96) by VVS, “ラストシーン“ (#97, “Last scene”) by stb feat. NEA and “Ich hasse” (#98, “I hate”) by Kauta.
