Week 808 – August 29th, 2026

 In course over the week it became pretty clear that I will have a new #1. ITZY singer YUNA did the last step with her single (originally released in March) “Ice cream” (#1). I really love this bubblegum pop song and its catchiness. This makes her the 5th singer from South Korea topping my chart in 2026. Hopefully it won’t be a one-hit-wonder as a solo artist. Last week’s #1 “Look at my life” (#2) by Gracie Abrams dropped one spot but is still at the podium. New in the Top 3 “LEMONADE” (#3) by aespa. Although they are well known in South Korea since 2020 this is only their 2nd chart appearance and it’s a recognisable one. Up one spot is G Flip with “Bed on fire” (#4). This one swapped spots with former #1 “Moonlight” (#5) by Jung Soyeon.

A big step downwards had former #1 “キミがいないと” (#2, “Without you”) by Ayane. She had to leave the Top 3 and dropped outside the Top 5 too. Next in line is “Lemon tang” (#7) by Hearts2Hearts. One spot behind you can find the 3rd highest song about lemons. This time it’s not a K-Pop song. It is “Soda Zitron” (#8, “Lemon soda”) by Austrian singer BIBIZA. Definitely the fruit of this summer is lemon! “Soda Zitron” is one of three new songs in the Top 10. Returning into this part is LEA with her song “Chemie” (#9). For the first time reaching the Top 10 are Rea Garvey and Imran with “Rivers” (#10).

The greatest gainer of the week is a little bit a surprise. KARD – haven’t charted them – singer SOMIN debuted last week near the bottom of the Top 100 with “Backseat” (#70). This week her solo debut jumped up 23 spots and landed in the Top 70. Haven’t seen in a while that a song from this part is jumping so high. The only time I can remember right now is the jump by later #1 “Torpedo” by Jillette Johnson back in 2013. It went up from #90 to #3. So far “Backseat” isn’t nowhere near, but who knows if it will end in the Top 10.

The highest debut is from Japan. Hirate Yurina – former singer of the Japenese band Keyakizaka46 which is now under the name Sakurazaka46 – gives her chart debut with “Kill or kiss” (#18). This is the opening theme for the anime “Marriagetoxin”. I haven’t read the manga, and I haven’t seen the anime until now. Maybe I will read the manga in the future. On the other hand, I’m not a frequent reader of this kind of books although I started reading some this year. “Kill or kiss” will end in the Top 10, but as my chart is very young in these days – only 20 songs are charting for 10 or more weeks – it will be hard for some songs to reach this part.

One more song is giving its debut within the Top 20. It is “So cute” (#20) by South Korean singer HWASA. She is part of the band Mamamoo and the last of the four members who entered the chart. Solar had been the first one back in 2022 with a minor hit. This year she had a breakthrough hit with “WANT” which peaked in the Top 30. She was followed by Whee In who had her solo debut on my chart in 2024 with minor success. Moon Byul followed this year with the Top 10 hit “Goodbyes and sad eyes”. And now HWASA gives her debut although she is the most successful solo singer out of this band. “So cute” took a while before I considered charting it, but the ABBA and the EUROPE influence on this track helped.

The 3rd highest debut is by MINNIE. She is part of i-dle and gave her solo debut on my chart earlier this year with “Her” (peaked at #44). This week she returned with a single from the K-Drama soundtrack “Spooky of love”. It is my most favourite song this show produced. In general five songs from this soundtrack got their debut this week. The 2nd best is “Promise rings” (#78) by KIM TAE RAE from ZEROBASEONE. Outside the Top 80 landed “Free fall” (#88) by An Tae Gyu from Dragon Pony, “LOVE & GHOST” (#89) by g0nny and “My girl” (#90) by JUNNY. Another show I’m currently watching also landed a smaller hit. It is “24” (#84) by Moon Sujin who had a minor hit back in 2023. This one is from the K-Drama “A bona fine killer”.

Other debuts are “Who she is” (#85) by KISS OF LIFE, “What’s a girl to do” (#87) by DAYOUNG from WSJN and “HEARTLOUD" by Kis-My-Ft2.
