Week 280 – July 9th, 2016

With Friday school closed the doors for nine weeks and it had been a relatively calm week for my chart. Only five songs gave their debut and within the Top 10 you can’t find new songs. Let’s put first things first and start with my Top 10 in the 2nd week of July. Still at #1 is Anouk. Her single “Run away together” (#1) is holding of for another week Adele’s beautiful song “Water under the bridge” (#2). Both a rather new with seven or eight weeks on chart so that there isn’t really a danger of taking over by Cam. Her album cut “Hungover on heartache” (#3) is completing the podium in its 12th week on chart. The next two songs switched their positions. Austrian star Christina Stürmer is now at #4 with her former #1 “Seite an Seite” (#4, “Side by side”) while Carrie Underwood’s “Church bells” (#5) dropped one spot.

In the lower part of my Top 10 there had been more action. Kate Voegele’s catchy summer song “Must be summertime” (#6) sprinted up four spots to knock at the door to the Top 5. There is a very good chance for her to enter this part by next week. Also doing well this week is Aussie girl Grace. Her song “Hell of a girl” (#7) climbed up two spots. It is also possible for her to reach the Top 5. For the rest of my Top 10 the Top 5 won’t be able to reach in the future, I think. Selena Gomez lost the spirit and dropped with both of her songs in my Top 10. “Kill em with kindness” (#8) and “Me & the rhythm” (#9) dropped two spots. Not giving up is the German duet “Bis es weh tut” (#10, “Until it hurts”) by Luxuslärm feat. Max Mutzke. They are now in their 18th week on chart and they didn’t dropped out of my Top 10 as predicted last week.

Last week I welcomed Korean girl band Sistar with “I like that” (#53) as the highest debut. This week the highest debut also goes to Korea. Girl’s Generation leading singer Taeyeon released two singles of her upcoming album “Why” at once. The title trick “Why” (#45) is now her first single which reached my chart. In my opinion “Why” is a little bit more orientated to the EDM than to K-Pop. It is a good song and "Why" let last weeks K-Pop debut “I like that” behind. For both “Why” and “I like that” I see a good future on my chart, but who high these songs would climb I couldn’t predict at the moment.

The 2nd best new entry is by a band called Joseph. Try not to be confused by the bands name. Jospeh are an US Indie girl pop band formed by the sisters Allison, Meegan, and Natalie Closner. Their band is named after the little Oregon town “Joseph”. Their lead single of their 2nd album “I’m alone, you’re not” is “White flag” (#60). I love the intro to this song and the refrain with the “You” is absolutely catchy. Sure this song debuted outside the Top 50, but I enjoy every listen to this song and I feel that they could do very well on my chart. Other new songs are the album cuts “Erinnerungen” (#83, “Memories”) and “Happy End” (#84) by Tagtraeumer and the German-Canadian collaboration “Cold in California” (#90) by Marcus Layton feat. JRDN.
