Week 72 – July 14th, 2012

The right answer to my #1 song of the week has been given by Jason Mraz some years ago with “I’m yours”. So “Say you’re mine” by Kate Voegele is still at #1. At the runner’s up position is Carrie Underwood. Her song “Good girl” continues her good run. Another week is passing by for Alanis Morissette. Although she had a concert in Vienna this week she is staying at #3 with “Guardian” followed by “Burning the harbor” the second track by Kate Voegele in my Top 10. The Top 5 is completed by former #1 song “Khoids Wossa”. Therefore Krautschädl is still the most successful Austrian band on my chart in 2012. At the bottom of the Top 10 two new songs are in. With “Primadonna” Marina And The Diamondas climbed up two to #9. At #10 Kelly Clarkson’s sixth song from her album “Stronger” can be found. So with “You love me” she set a new record on my chart. I have to say goodbye to “Silenced by the night” by Keane (#12) and “Stay awhile” by Ryan Star (#18).

All in all between the spots 11 to 20 there is a lot of action including a lot of new songs. It’s a little bit of a renewal while “Summer paradise” is knocking heavily on the door to my Top 10. And two older songs are at #19 & #20. To mention is her “Little talks” by Of Monsters and Men. Their song peaked at #9 but in its 17th week this song is still within the Top 20. Climbing up my chart into this section are Suzie McNeil with her catchy song “Tough love” (#15), Stooshe with their retro song “Black heart” (#16) and Dragonette with “Let it go” (#17). Between these songs the highest new entry can be found. It’s Pink. The last time she charted was with “F**kin’ perfect” last year, because “Bridge of light” from the Soundtrack of Happy Feet Two failed to chart. “Blow me (one last kiss)” stormed in at #13 although I thought first that this song isn’t so good. But after a few times listening to this song I started to really like it.

And there is one more high new entry. Do you remember “Fireflies”? This song was a big hit for Owl City. Despite to the fact that Owl City released several singles after this monster hit, none of them got as big as “Fireflies”. With “Good times” – cooperation with new star Carly Rae Jepsen – Owl City has a good chance to get an international hit. For me “Good time” starts its charting run at #21. This week I have two greatest gainers of the week. Let’s start with Delta Goodrem. “Sitting on top of the world” climbed 16 spots to #72. The other song is “Wir sind wie wir sind” by Austrian group Lucky Strikes Back at #38.

Between the rest of my new entries there are some interesting acts. I’m starting with Menowin Fröhlich. He was a participant of Deutschland sucht den Superstar (DSDS or German Idol). First he took part in 2005, but he failed to reach the final shows because he got arrested for bodily harm and fraud. In 2009 he finished DSDS as runner up. After this show he had little success, but in 2011 he got arrested for a second time after the suspended sentence was abolished. In 2012 he is trying to focus more on music with his first album “White Chocolate” and his single “Round’n’Round” which debuts at #52.

Then the new single by Tamar Kaprelian gets a solid start. “California” from her “California EP” debuts at #79. I have mentioned Carly Rae Jepsen with Owl City as the highest new entry of my chart, but she has one more new song on my chart. “Curiosity” debuts at #69. The other new entries are “My kind of love” by Emeli Sandé (#74), “She’s so mean” by Matchbox Twenty (#78), “Consequence of you” by Hanne Sørvaag (#80), “Keep your eyes open” by Needtobreathe (#81), “Beautiful imperfections” by Mattanja Joy Bradley (#85), “Celebrate” by Whitney Houston & Jordin Sparks (#94) and “Live forever” Jannik Vittrup & Jeremy Carr (#95)
