Week 122 – June 29th, 2013

The last two weeks showed that “Can’t keep waiting” (#2) is only a short-lived #1. Autumn Hill only hold the top position for two weeks before the One Direction clone took over. Finnish Satin Circus created a very catchy tune with their debut single “Emma”. Two weeks ago “Emma” debuted within the Top 5 and now this song is leading the pack. Completing the Top 3 is Matt Cardle. His first single from “The fire” “It’s only love” (#3) climbed up two spots. Therefore “People like us” (#4) and “True love” (#5) slipped one down.

Within the Top 10 I’m coming to this week’s biggest sensation. This is the comeback of the year if not of the decade. For those who aren’t into Austrian pop music I must go back a little bit. Back in 2005 Rising Girl took part in the Ö3 Soundcheck a talent competition by the biggest Austrian radio station. For this competition they used their song “Rising girl” which they first released on their EP “Push …” in 1996. Heavy rotation brought them a #1 hit in Austria with “Rising girl” in the summer of 2005. Two chart entries followed, but these singles didn’t reach the Top 10. All other singles from them flopped. With the first single within five years they maybe could change this. “I know you’ll wait for me” (#6) with Austrian DJ Lil Dirty is a very, very catchy tune and can be compared with this year’s smash hit “Safe and sound” by Capital Cities. Hopefully this song is played on Austrian radio stations to get them another big hit.

After this short review of Austrian music history I’m going back to my Top 10. Also new within this section is Maras April. Their song “Tschüss” (#7, Goodbye) climbed up 8 spots. And there is a second new song from Austria in my Top 10. It only has been a matter of time when “Cornetto” (#10) by Marla Blumenblatt reached this part of my chart. These songs replaced long time Top 10 hit “Torpedo” (#11) by Jillette Johnson, “Pompeii” (#14) by Bastille and “Breathe in, breathe out” (#18) by Tich.

Several sons are trying to get in the Top 10. Too many to list them all. Generally this week is full of high new entries. Beside Rising Girl’s Top 10 entry there are three more songs which debut in the Top 25. Let’s start with another comeback. About “Mambo No. 5 (A little bit of …)” I don’t have to write a lot. This song is widely known. Lou Bega’s latest single is the cover of “Give it up” by KC and the Sunshine Band. “Give it up” (#21) is the first single from his cover album “A little bit of 80s”. On my chart “Give it up” is the highest charting cover song ever.

Then there is another tune from Germany. Gentleman released the 2nd single from his latest album “New day dawn”. With his Reggae style he entered one more time my chart. “In my arms” (#24) is once more a very good song from him and could reach my Top 10 which “You remember” failed to reach. This week I’m speaking a lot of comebacks. This next song is also a comeback for a group which dominated the charts back in the 1990’s. From “We’ve got it going on” over “Quit playing games” to “I want it that way” the Backstreet Boys had several Top 10 hits in Austria and certainly worldwide. Not every of these songs I liked, but Adam from Pop!Goes the chart posted the new single from them. I absolutely not expected a song like this by them. “In a world like this” (#25) is a fresh new song for a band I’ve not listened to since the early 2000’s. I really believe that this song is their next big hit.

In the shadow of these songs two other songs are climbing up my chart. These are two pop rock songs from two continents. One is “Laying me low” (#38) by David Cook. A singer who is very popular in the USA. The other song is “All over now” (#61) by Daniel Baron who is a popular singer in South Africa. “All over now” is the greatest gainer of the week. I shouldn’t forget about another rock tune which is a sleeper on my chart. “Should’ve known better” (#28) by Hinder is still on its way up on my chart.

Other new entries are “Love ain’t just a word” (#44) by Brixtonboogie, “Shut up and kiss me” (#65) by DJ Sammy feat. The Jackie Boyz, “Wach auf” (#81, “Wake up”) by Cris Cosmo feat. Mellow Mark, “I am beautiful” (#82) by Candice Glover, “Never look back” (#89) by Crystalyne, “One hundred years, one thousand beats” (#90) by Navet, “Jetzt isser drin” (#92, “Now he is inside”) by J.B.O., “What about love” (#95) by Austin Mahone, “Cliché” (#98) by Candy Mafia - a girl group from Thailand - and “Made in the USA” (#99) by Demi Lovato.
