Week 121 – June 22nd, 2013

Autumn Hill got a 2nd week at the top of my chart with “Can’t keep waiting”. In a tough decision they won over Satin Circus. Last week this Finnish band debuted within the Top 4 with the One Direction sound. This week “Emma” (#2) climbed up two. This means that Kelly Clarkson dropped one with “People like us” (#3). “It’s only love” (#5) by Matt Cardle finally reached the Top 5. This song is a sleeper like his only #1 hit before “Starlight”. My personal airplay for this song is now very strong which brings him in a position where he could land his next #1. It’s a shame that this song only peaked at #175 in UK.

On her way down is Tich. “Dumb” (#6) dropped out of the Top 5 and “Breathe in, breathe out” (#8) dropped two. Still in the Top 10 is Jillette Johnson. “Torpedo” (#10) is in its 21st week on chart and in its 20th week within the Top 10. Next week I get the copy of her debut album “Water in a whale” which includes all songs from her “Whiskey & frosting EP”. Then we will see if she ends up with one more Top 10 week. Bon Jovi achieved his 2nd Top 10 hit with “What about now” (#7) and finally “Pompeii” (#9) reached a spot within the Top 10. For Bastille it is their first Top 10 hit after placing several singles on my chart since 2011. These songs replaced “22” (#12) by Taylor Swift and “Schönste Zeit” (#13) by Bosse.

Austrian newcomer Marla Blumenblatt reached a good position for the next week’s Top 10 with her retro song “Cornetto” (#11). While the temperature is rising up in Middle Europe to highs about 38°C (~ 100°F) after weeks with bad weather and the big flood this song about an ice cream is rising up and brings back the summer feeling. “Brave” (#14) by Sara Bareilles is also climbing up the chart. Maybe she could continue this strong performance by reaching the Top 10. This is also the target for German act Maras April with their charting debut song “Tschüss” (#15).

Speaking about summer feelings brings me to one more song which I combine with these feelings at the moment. This fresh new sound comes from Columbia or Spain where Jay Santos is living at the moment. “Caliente” (#27) is his first hit and this week’s greatest gainer. The highest new entry comes from Emma. Last week she had several Top 10 hits. This year the songs from her “Sarò libera” album didn’t meet these expectations. This week the last three songs from this album reached my chart before my attention is going to her new album “Schiena” (“Back”) from whom she released this week the second single. You may ask why I’m late with her new album. This is because I bought “Sarò libera” very late and so I’m a little bit behind. The same thing happened with Matt Cardle and Ben Montague. But back to the topic. Emma’s “Un attimo” (#51, “ A moment”) is this week’s highest new entry. Her other new charting songs are “Protagonista” (#78, “Protagonist”) and “Scusa se vado via” (#79, “Excuse me if you go away”).

A highlight from this week’s new entries is “I was wrong” (#71). This is Celeste Buckingham’s third charting song this time with Majk Spirit. Last year she reached #1 with her chart debut “Run Run Run”. And I shouldn’t forget two comeback songs. Let’s start with Fleetwood Mac. Their new single “Sad angel” (#89) is absolutely worth listening to it. Sure it debuts down my chart, but it could go higher next week. And there is the new single from Ashanti “Never should have” (#92). Her biggest hit in Europe “Foolish” back in 2002 lead me to buy her debut album which is normally not the type of music I’m listening too. Since this time she has been out of my mind. Perhaps this more R&B song brings her back where she had been with “Foolish”.

Other new entries are “Wild” (#63) by 9Muses, “Coming home” (#91) by Eric Saade, “If I loved you” (#93) by Delta Rae feat. Lindsey Buckingham, “New colours” (#95) by Janet Leon and “All stars” (#97) by Blush.
