Week 161 – March 29th, 2014

Three weeks ago Anouk debuted at #1 with “You & I” (#1). Since then she is holding off her other top song “I won’t play that game” (#2) from #1. This week is no exception. The podium is completed by Austrian band Tagträumer. Their song “Sinn” (#3) is in it’s 7th week within the Top 3. The other German song in the Top 5 is once more “Ich lass das Licht für dich an” (#4). Two songs are new in the Top 10. The highest new song in the Top 10 comes by Ben Montague. His song “Sweet Amelia” (#8) should easily go up the chart and reach Top 5. The other new song is “When the world breaks your heart” (#10). The Goo Goo Dolls took a long time, 11 weeks, for reaching Top 10 with this song. The cucurrence had been hard, but for now they are in. Maybe this beautiful song climbs up some spots in the next weeks.

Cassadee Pop’s country pop song “I wish I could break your heart” (#12) had to leave the Top 10 after six weeks. Only one week in the Top 10 spent “Can’t remember to forget you” (#13) by Shakira feat. Rihanna. And as always there are several songs which are trying to reach the Top 10. This week the one to mention comes from an Austrian band. Back in 2011 Nihils took part in the first season of “Die große Chance” with their song “Set my sail”. This song peaked at #26 and is easily outperformed by the bands actual single. “Lovers on the run” (#16) climbed up 16 spots to a new peak. This song isn’t a typical Austro Pop song, because it is more oriented in modern electronic indie pop. You should definitely listen to this pop gem. In the shadow of this song two more songs by Emma, “La mia felicità” (#18) and “Trattengo il fiato” (#21) are continuing their upwards trend.

Haley Reinhart’s song “Undone” (#29) which has never been released as an official single, climbed up 20 spots. For this “Undone” is the greatest gainer of the week. Not far behind this week’s highest debut can be found. It’s a French rock song by French Rock band Kyo. Their comeback single after a break of eight years is “Le graal” (#34). This song has an infecting sound and a refrain which stuck in your head. So far the best charting French song has been “Je veux” (peaked at #3 back in 2011). At the moment I’ve got the feeling that this song could be the first French song in the Top 3 since “Je veux”. The highest debut is followed by three album tracks by Taylor Swift. The highest of these three songs is “I almost do” (#35) followed by “Stay stay stay” (#36) and “Holy ground” (#37).

And there are two more debuts within this week’s Top 50. One song is a little bit older, but this song could be a favourite of my in this year. It’s “Classic” (#48) by MKTO who had a hit with this song back in 2013 in Australia. The other one comes from a well known artist on my chart. It’s the new single “Heartkill” (#49) by Norwegian singer Tone Damli. Her last charting song “Winner of a losing game” peaked at #35 last Autumn. Other debuts are “Air balloon” (#74) by Lily Allen, “Light me up” (#75) by Birdy, “How I feel” (#86, no official single) by Centao, “Stars align” (#90) by Laleh who has actually a hit with “Some die young” in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, “Stay awake” (#91) by Marlene, “Looking for that girl” (#91) by Tim McGraw, “Thieves (#94) by Scarlett O’Hanna, “The ocean” (#98) by Tonight Alive and “Stop the world” (#100) by Matt Chase.
