Week 163 – April 12th, 2014

Spending a week in Prague didn’t change my mind about the actual music and the whole Top 3. So Anouk’s double pack at the top continues for a fifth consecutive week and for the 2nd time with “I won’t play that game” (#1) at the top and “You & I” (#2) in the runner’s up position. Austrian band Tagträumer stays for a fifth week at #3 with “Sinn” while their 2nd single “Schwerelos” (#25) did a huge step upwards. New at #4 is Cuban singer Chila Lynn. Her beautiful “When love …” could end Tagträumer’s run at #3 next week. Two well-known artists also have this chance. Ben Montague’s “Sweet Amelia” (#7) climbed up one and then there is Emma. And no it’s not a re-climb by “L’amore non mi basta” (#8). It’s Emma’s latest Top 10 hit “La mia felicità”(#9, “My happiness”) which reached the Top 10 for the first time in its 8th week.

The Goo Goo Dolls had to leave the Top 10 with “When the world breaks your heart” (#15). Matt Cardle finished this week once more at #11 with “Empire” which should’ve been a Top 10 hit so far. Maybe he is reaching this part next week. With Birdy and Neon Trees there are two more acts who have a good chance to do this step. For both this could be their first Top 10 hit while it would be the first with the first charting song for Neon Trees. Birdy’s “Light me up” (#19) climbed up six spots while Neon Trees’ “Sleeping with a friend” is a little bit more catchier and climbed up eleven spots.

The highest new entry comes by well established German dance act Cascada. Their new single “Blink” debuted at #27. “Blink” is a cover version by unknown British pop duo U.V.U.K. based in London, consisting of Maxine Leigh and Jenna Quinn. “Blink” had been their 2nd official single in 2012. Cascada’s version of “Blink” is a lot more danceable than the original and should be as usual a big hit for this act. The 2nd best debut this week is a little bit older. Originally “W stronę słońca” (#39, “Towards the sun”) has been released in December 2012. In Poland Ewelina Lisowska reached very soon #1 in 2013. By chance I'm finally stumbled upon this song and now she debuted within the Top 40.

And there is a third debut within the Top 50 this week. But before I’ve to mention that US-Rock band Honor By August climbed up 20 spots with “Already yours” (#45). So “Already yours” is the greatest gainer of the week. Russian-Estonian singer Tanja debuts with “Amazing” (#49). This song represents Estonia in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Denmark. This song should be easily in the finals and then we will see if she is reaching a top spot with “Amazing”.

Other debuts are “Let go for tonight” (#79) by Foxes, “Heart cry” (#81) by Pixie Lott, “Till the sun burns out” (#93) by [SEBELL], “Glow” (#94) by Manda, “Catch me” (#95) by Gigi Radics, “Not ready to say goodbye” (#96) by Awa and “Letter to you” (#97) by Lenny.
