Week 208 – February 21st, 2015

My feelings got right. With a two spot climb Kelly Clarkson got her fifth #1 and the first since June 2013 when she topped the chart with “People like us” for one week. “Heartbeat song” (#1) is a great first single from her upcoming album “Peace by peace”. Kelly Clarkson stopped Jillette Johnson topping the chart for a 2nd week with “17” (#2) which dropped one. Satin Circus also climbed up one with “Crossroads” (#3) and is now completing the podium. Two weeks ago the Voice of Germany winner Charley Ann Schmutzler topped the chart with “Blue heart” (#4). This week “Blue heart” dropped two spots and is now outside the Top 3. Still in the Top 5 is Selena Gomez with “The heart wants what it wants” (#5) which brings her a 12th consecutive week in the Top 5.

Behind the Top 5 there hadn’t been a lot of action this week. Still in striking distance is “Say you love me” (#6) by Jessie Ware. By next week this song should be in the Top 5. I really like this song and the chorus at the end is lifting up this song. “Say you love me” is followed by Ellie Goulding’s “Love me like you do” (#7). “Love me like you do” develops as her biggest hit – not even on my chart. At the moment this song seems to be everywhere including #1 in Austria. This should help her to do the next step on my chart. At #8 there is the next non-mover with “Phoenix” by Molly Sandén. The only change had been the position change between Tagträumer’s “Tagträumen” (#9) and Matt Cardle’s “Hit my heart” (#10).

This week’s highest new entry is by a new band from the UK. After the first listen to “Anyway” (#18) I knew that I like this 1980’s inspired song by New Motion, but I never thought that this song will debut as high as it did. In the end I was surprised how often I listened to this song this week. Due to this fact “Anyway” got it big debut within the Top 20. The next weeks will show if this high debut is only a flash in the pan or they will attack the Top 10. At the moment some of the high new entries of the last two weeks aren’t in the position to attack the Top 10, but these songs aren’t far away from a spot in the Top 20 such like “Was ist los” (#21) by EAV, “Weak heart” (#22) by Zara Larsson or “Little toy gun” (#26) by Carrie Underwood.

The first time I heard of Tori Kelly had been when she was featured on Professor Green’s song “Lullaby” (#62 in the year-end of 2014). She had released some songs before which I listened too, but I won’t chart. “Lullaby” gave her carrier a new boost and now she released another solo single. “Nobody love” (#28) is her first output since the single with Professor Green. This song is produced by Max Martin and has written hit all over it. As “Anyway” I hadn’t this song on my shortlist for a high new entry, but this song is getting better with every listen and at least it should perform as well as “Lullaby” did. Debuting at #28 is good, but it isn’t giving her the same pressure as the Top 20 debut which New Motion have.

For a third week in a row I’ve the same greatest gainer of the week. It’s once more “A little too late” (#36) by Matt Cardle. This week “A little too late” climbed up 15 spots to gain a spot within the Top 40. Because this song isn’t near the Top 30 it is possible that Matt Cardle is getting the award for the greatest gainer of the week for a fourth time next week. Three weeks with the same greatest gainer are a record for the history books and should be there for a very long time except Matt Cardle is doing the same next week.
