Week 206 – February 07th, 2015

Somehow Charley Ann Schmutzler managed to defend her position at the top with “Blue heart” (#1). Last week I thought that this song would only stay one week at the top, but “17” (#2) by Jillette Johnson failed to climb up two spots. “The heart wants what it wants” (#3) by Selena Gomez also failed to climb back to the sun shining spot. Interesting to see is that those top debuts of week 204 are caught at their last week’s position. So Kelly Clarkson’s “Heartbeat song” is still at #4 and Finish boy band Satin Circus is still at #5 with “Crossroads”.

Other high debuts are doing a little bit better this week. First to mention is Jessie Ware with her first Top 10 hit. “Say you love me” (#6) climbed up another spot and is now in front of the Top 5. Then there is Ellie Goulding. Her song from the film “Fifty shades of grey” is now in the Top 10 after a climb of four spots. “Love me like you do” (#7) is also the first song of a soundtrack in my Top 10 as I mentioned last week. Going down the Top 10 is former #1 “Hit my heart” (#8) by Matt Cardle. “Hit my heart” lost two spots, but it is still a very good song. This is just as true for “Stay together” (#10) by Madi Diaz which is holding #10 for a 2nd week. Caught between these former #1’s is “When you were mine” (#9) by Night Terrors of 1927 feat. Tegan & Sara.

Immediate before an entry in the Top 10 are last week’s highest new entries. Austrian pop rock band Tagträumer are now in the leading position. Their latest smash “Tagträumen” (#11) climbed up one spot. The dance gem “Phoenix” (#12) by Molly Sandén climbed up four spots and is now directly behind Tagträumer. Both songs are in the position to do this last step which is required to enter the Top 10. While you’ve seen several debuts within the Top 20 over the last weeks, there is no debut which can be found in the section this week.

The highest debut is by Austrian band EAV. “Was ist los” (#27, “What’s happening) failed to entered the chart as high as Tagträumer last week, but a debut within the Top 30 is still good. EAV is my favourite band of my youth. When I grew up they had several hits like “Ba-Ba-Banküberfall” (“Ba-Ba-Bankrobbery) – this is still my favourite song by them –, “Märchenprinz” (“Prince Charming”), “Fata Morgana”, “Küss die Hand, schöne Frau” (“Kiss the hand, pretty lady”) or “Ding Dong” to name only a few of their hits of the 1980’s or early 1990’s. They made a name for themselves with their comedy and socially critical songs. Best known for the social criticism is their Austrian Top 10 hit “Burli”. After releasing several weak songs “Was ist los” is in the direction of their older songs with the biting social criticism. “Was ist los” is quite a good song which I predict a Top 10 entry in the future (I hope this prediction occurs).

The 2nd best new entry is by Swedish artist Zara Larsson. At the moment she tries to conquer the US market with her first hit “Uncover” which had been big for me in 2013 when it peaked at #6. So far this one has been her only Top 10 hit, because her other charting songs failed to do as well as this song. For example “Rooftop” peaked only at #17 and dropped out of the chart this week. “Weak heart” (#31) is her latest try to enter my Top 10. This week “Weak heart” got a solid debut near the Top 30. The chance is good for this song to enter the Top 20, but if she reaching the Top 10 with this song is hard to predict at the moment.

Other debuts are “Du träumst wie ich” (#85, „You dream as I“) by Curse, “Tonight” (#86) by The Shires, “Lips are movin’ ” (#87) by Meghan Trainor, “Glück” (#89, “Luck”) by Alexa Feser, “Bulletproof Picasso” (#94) by Train, “Electric love” (#96) by BØRNS, “Everyone’s the same” (#98) by Mrs. Greenbird, “The day you’ll find me” (#99) by Lila and “Es geht immer, das bisschen schlimmer” (#100, It is always, that little bit worse” by Kommando Elefant.
