Week 205 – January 31st, 2015

In the last two weeks my chart was inundated with several high new entries. For a third week in a row there are two high new entries. But this week none of these songs reached Top 10 in its 1st week. This opened the way for Charley Ann Schmutzler. Her beautiful “Blue heart” (#1) did the last step and reached #1. Charley Ann Schmutzler is the first German act since last year in September at #1 when Juli topped the chart with “Insel” (#71) for one week. For Selena Gomez's “The heart wants what it wants” only the runners up position was left over this week. Jillette Johnson defended the spot at the podium with “17” (#3) while Kelly Clarkson’s “Heartbeat song” (#4) didn’t move. This similar to the beginning of the chart run of “Shelter” (#13) by Dash Berlin feat. Roxanne Emery which never reached the Top 3. I’m sure that “Heartbeat song” won’t have the same fate. In the meanwhile Satin Circus scored their 3rd Top 5 hit with “Crossroads” (#5) with a climb of two spots.

Former #1 “Hit my heart” (#6) by Matt Cardle is now out of the Top 5 after eight weeks in this part of the chart. Also “Blank space” (#7) by Taylor Swift dropped one spot. These little droppers are followed by “Say you love me” (#8). Jessie Ware’s first Top 10 hit climbed up one spot and is doing very well so far. Back in the Top 10 is “When you were mine” (#9) by Night Terrors of 1927 feat. Tegan & Sara. After a one-week-break they return strong at #9. The Top 10 is rounded out by Madi Diaz’s “Stay together” (#10).

Close to the Top 10 is Ellie Goulding. Her song “Love me like you do” (#11) climbed up two spots and is more than ready for the Top 10. “Love me like you do” could be the first song of a soundtrack in my Top since re-starting back in 2011. Ellie Goulding is followed by my favourite Austrian band at the moment. Tagträumer celebrate their 4th chart hit without having an album out. Their latest single is “Tagträumen” (#12, “Daydreaming”). It’s another wonderful, well written song by them. They are riding on the wave of success and I can’t see when it will end. “Tagträumen” is clear shot for Top 10. Another #1 by them? It’s possible, but there are so much good songs in my Top 10 that it will be hard, but not impossible.

A new Swedish artist – in Sweden she is well known – can be found on my chart. With “Phoenix” (#16) Molly Sandén managed an impressive start. It’s her first independent release too. Two days ago the video for this song was released. It’s a good one, but I’ve seen better ones in the past. The song itself is a little bit darker which I always like and the text is very direct. The sound is fresh and unique. With this debut in the Top 20 a Top 10 spot in the future should be in distance. A little bit down the chart this week’s greatest gainer can be found. It’s “Chimera” (#19) by Emma. “Chimera” climbed up 19 spots and is now the first week in the Top 50.

Another new Swedish act is leading a pack of new entries. This new band is called Hurricane Love. They entered with the fresh and catchy folk song “Nowhere to go” (#59). Directly behind is “Right here” (#60) by Jess Glynne. “Right here” had been her first solo single and was released a while ago. Last week I heard a cover version of this song and now “Right here” gave its debut. Then there is Swiss Schlager singer and DSDS winner Beatrice Egli. The 2nd single of her 3rd album in three years “Wir leben laut” (#61, “We live loud”) has a solid debut. This Schlager song goes in the direction of Helene Fischer’s monster hit “Atemlos durch die Nacht” (#1 selling song in Austria). “Atemlos durch die Nacht” peaked within the Top 20 and if “Wir leben laut” can develop as good as Helene Fischer’s song it should also reach a peak in the Top 20. Until then “Wir leben laut” outperformed all her other chart entries in the first week on chart.

Other new entries are “Empty words” (#62) and “Shut up” (#100) by Christina Aguilera, “Anthem” (#90) by Ida LaFontaine, “We builts this house” (#95) by Scorpions and “My house” (#99) by PRVIS.
