Week 233 – August 15^th, 2015

”New day” (#1) is still shining bright from the top. Anouk brings her latest smash for a third week to the top. This week there is a new song at the runner’s- up position. It is “Lush life” (#2) by Swedish star Zara Larsson. I’m not sure if this song will be #1 by next week, because there is a band sprinting up all the way to #3 this week. The band I mean are Tagtraeumer. They had two #1’s before with “Mein Herz (für immer)” (“My heart (for always)”) and “Sinn” (“Sense”). This time their actual single “Brücken zum Mond” (“Bridges to the moon”, #3) had a longer run on the chart to reach the Top 3. But I personally like this song more and more. So there is a big chance to see this song at the top by next week. Everytime when songs climb up others have to go down. This week is no difference. “Bad blood” (#4) dropped two spots and therefore Taylor Swift isn’t in the Top 3 after awhile. The other band in the Top 5 the Cold War Kids are holding their position with “First” (#5).

Opening the part from 6 to 10 are Broods with their former #1 “Four walls” (#4). They are followed by Leslie Clio. Her recent single is still climbing up, but “All the other fools” (#7) is a little bit slower than her other #1’s. Also doing well is Emma’s “Occhi profondi” (#8). If you compare this song with her songs from “Schiena” then I think this song is a little bit weaker. This explains why “Occhi profondi” isn’t in the Top 3 at this time of its chart run. Rounding out the Top 10 are the two former #1’s “Traffic lights” (#9) by Lena and “My heart ain’t that broken” (#10) by Leslie Clio.

Once more there are a many debuts this week. Happily the top debuts are from my home country Austria. And then there are several debuts are from our neighbours Germany. I’m proud to write that there are about 25 % of the songs from Germany, Switzerland and Austria on my chart which is absolutely great. Let’s start with the highest new entry. Last year Austrian band Wanda released their first album. Only one single “Auseinandergehen ist schwer” (“Splitting up is hard”) of this album made it to my chart where it peaked at #62. This time the Austrian indie rockers released the first single of their upcoming new album “Bussi” (“Kiss”). This song hasn’t lot lyrics, but the lyrics this song has are very meaningful. And then there is the catchy phrase “Bussi Baby” (“Kiss Baby”) which is repeated 57 times in the song. I really enjoy listing this single “Bussi Baby” (#17) which brought them all the way into the Top 20 in the first week.

The 2nd best new entry is also from my home country Austria. If you’re following my chart you will know them for their #1 smash “Khoids Wossa” (“Cold water”). Yes I’m writing about Krautschädl, the band from my neighbour city Wels. They topped the chart in May and June 2012 for four weeks. Some weeks ago they released their new single “Da Sommla” (#23), but I didn’t paid a lot of attention to this song. But this week we had constant temperatures over 35° C every day and tropic nights. To make it short this song fits very well with the actual weather and it is a cool summer song. The chorus sounds like the chorus in their big hit “Khoids Wossa”. First I thought that I will debut this song within the Top 10, but after looking over numbers I've listened to this song I found out that I’ve listened more to “Bussi Baby” than to this song. Maybe they will sprint into the Top 10 next week.

Also debuting within the Top 30 are German band Fettes Brot. Over the years the Hip Hop band from Hamburg had several hit songs for me starting from “Jein” (“Yes and no”) to “Emanuela”. Since I started charting again they had no hit. This week it changed with “Von der Liebe” (#30, “From love”). This song is really cool and has very interesting lyrics. I recently watched the first season of “You’re the worst” and if you watched this series too than you know the theme of this song. In my eyes this song would be a great title song and I’m sure that “Von der Liebe” will do well on my chart.

A little bit different to the other mentioned debuts is the next one. It is a mix of Schlager and Volksmusik (traditional music in Austria, Germany and Switzerland). Normally I’m not into this music scene and music. Somehow I found about the song “Mehr mehr mehr” (#31, “More more more”) by German newcomer girl band La Goassn which is similar to “The Alley”. The refrain “Mehr mehr mehr” is extremely catchy, the lyrics are interesting and the theme is up-to-date and youthful which is not often found is songs in this genre. I personally think that this song will do as well as last year’s surprising hit “Glick” (peaked at #26) by Austrian girl band Poxrucker Sisters which flattened the way for this song.

There is no end in sight for the new entry section within the Top 50. After two songs from the neighbours Germany I’ve to go back to Austria. The next one is the new project by Austrian alternative musician Effi. He found the project “Granada”. With their second single after “Ottakring” which failed to enter my chart they got their debut. It is a song which is only 1 minute and 59 seconds long and has a typical summer theme. The song I’m writing about is “Palmen am Balkon” (#32, “Palm trees on balcony”). This song is as well as “Bussi Baby” and “Da Sommla” in the Austrian dialect – here from Vienna. I really love the lyrics of this song and the theme which is about spending the holidays in the own four walls instead of having a holiday trip to Italy (Italy is the favourite destination of the Austrians). One sentences is bringing this feeling to the point which is “I brauch kan Strand, i bin eh am Sand” (I don’t need the beach, I’m anyway on the sand”). Sand is common phrase in German which means to be broke.

Then there are three more new entries within the Top 50. The first to mention is by Austrian band BEAU. It is absolutely necessary to write it in capitals for two reasons: The band itself is writing them in capitals and there is an indie band in New York which are also call themselves Beau. BEAU from Austria had a minor hit last year, but their new one “Stay wild” (#42) is their first on my chart. The 2nd song is “Run” (#43) by Belgian singer Emma Bale. I started to enjoy her song after I listened to the remix by Lost Frequencies, but on my chart I didn’t chart the remix version. The third one is by Switzerland and German band BOY. Their recent single “We were here” (#50) finally found its way to my chart.

The other new entries are “Küss mich” (#87, “Kiss me”) by Madsen, “Don’t be so hard on yourself” (#88) by Jess Glynne, “Drag me down” (#89) by One Direction, “Sorry” (#97) by Finnish singer Niila – in Germany there is a rock band of the same name –, “Epana” (#98) by Lariss and “Mon cœur a trope aimé” (#100, My heart was too fond) by Zoë.
