Week 258 – February 6th, 2016

Over the last weeks I got the feeling that my chart is growing older and older and that there aren’t as many new songs as in the past to replace the old ones. This week all these thoughts were wiped away. 19 new entries are no record, but this is the first time in a long time I’ve more than 15 new entries. The last time this happened had been at the end of October 2015. Most of the debuts are down the chart, but there are some in my Top 50 too. Before I write more about this week’s debuts I’m starting as always with my Top 10.

While my chart experienced a small earthquake there is nothing new at the top. Leslie Clio is holding the top spot for a 5th consecutive week with “Damage done”. Behind her there had been a position change. Former #1 “Nichts” (#3, “Nothing”) by Austrian Tagtraeumer dropped one spot. Therefor Taylor Swift’s “New romantics” (#2) climbed up one and is now in the runner’s-up position. These songs are followed by two acts that had no Top 5 hit before. First to mention is Sara Hartman. Her debut single “Monster lead me home” (#4) climbed up two spots. Although this song performed very well this song won’t be my next #1. The better chance has the brilliant “New bohemia” (#5) by Transviolet. I loved this song right from the start and now it is in a position to do the last step and it is absolutely possible that Transviolet is doing this step next week.

Sara Hartman and Transviolet won this week with their songs, but there are some songs which had to leave the Top 5. Adele is dropping down with her six week chart topping song “Hello” (#6). Her follow up “When we were young” can’t be found on my chart at the moment, but this song should debut in the next two weeks. Also dropping out of the Top 5 is “Vergiss mein nicht” (#10, “Forget-Me-Not”) by Solarkreis. Caught between these droppers are two non-movers “Last goodbye” (#7) by Anouk and “Black roses” (#8) by Clare Bowen as well as the only climber in the 2nd part of my Top 10 “Ghost” (#9) by Jamie-Lee Kriewitz. By the way Jamie-Lee Kriewitz is participating with “Ghost” in the German pre-selection for the Eurovision song contest. “Ghost” has a good chance to represent Germany, but there is also the new single by Luxuslärm which could do well.

So I just finished with my Top 10. Let’s go to the new entries. The highest new entry is by Alessia Cara. Her first hit single “Here” – an US Top 5 hit – never found its way into my chart although the lyrics are very dark. Her 2nd single “Wild things” (#35) is continuing where her debut ceased. While “Here” flopped for me “Wild things” is doing way better and this song is this week’s highest new entry. With this song in her pocket she should do well and a Top 10 spot is absolutely in reach. “Wild things” isn’t the only new song in my Top 50. The 2nd best debut is by a well known artist. Birdy released with “Keeping your head up” (#46) the first single of her sophomore album “Beautiful lies”. At first I wasn’t sure about charting this song, but this song is getting stronger with every listen. It is no “Light me up” (reached #1 in 2014), but “Keeping your head up” should do well.

Back in 2012 I charted for the first time a song by Canadian Shawn Hook. It took about three and a half year before another song by him found its way into my chart. This week it was time and Shawn Hook got a debut with his catchy third single “Relapse” (#47) from his album “Analog love”. It is a decent song and I hope that “Relapse” will perform well on my chart. Next in line is a debut by Twenty One Pilots. The last time I charted them had been back in February 2013 when the chart run of their debut single “Holding on to you” ended. Since this time I’ve not payed a lot of attention to them. Sure I’ve listened into “Tear in my heart” when it had been released last year, but for some reasons I gave this song the go-by. Last week their actual single “Stressed out” debuted in the “Austrian Top 40” and I decided to give them another chance with their singles since “Holding on to you”. Most of their singles are still no songs I would chart, but there is one song I’m debuting this week. It is “Tear in my heart” (#48) – the bands biggest hit untiled they released “Stressed out”. So you find a song from 2015 among my Top 3 debuts in the first February edition of my chart. Last but not least to mention is Cam. Her follow up to “Burning house” reached a Top 50 spot from a standing position. “Mayday” (#49) is my favourite song by her so far and I hope that she will reach my Top 20 in a few weeks.
