Week 259 – February 13th, 2016

With a big climb alternative act Transviolet took the last step to catch the bands 1st #1 on my chart. The catchy “New bohemia” (#1) replaced “Damage done” (#2) by Leslie Clio which had been #1 for five weeks. For the moment it seems that Leslie Clio’s run at the top has ended until I chart some of her other songs from the “Eureka” album. The other new song at the podium is “Monster lead me home” (#3) by Sara Hartman. This week Sara Hartman released her 2nd single “Stranger in a room” which is a Jamie XX cover. From my point of view this is a disappointing choice for a single and so I’ll not chart this song for the moment, but maybe in a few weeks … . Last week Taylor Swift reached #2 with “New romantics” (#4). This week she dropped down two spots. The third new song within my Top 5 is “Last goodbye” (#5) by Anouk. For this core artist a Top 5 hit is nothing special and we’ll see if “Last goodbye” has a chance to reach #1.

Dropping out of the Top 3 and the Top 5 is Austrian band Tagtraeumer. Their recent single “Nichts” (#6, “Nothing”) dropped three spots. “Nichts” is followed by another former #1. Adele’s “Hello” (#7) is continuing the downwards trend with a drop of one spot. At #8 you still can find Clare Bowen. For a third week in a row “Black roses” didn’t move and I’m not sure if there is a chance for her to peak better. These songs are followed by two new songs within my Top 10. Let’s welcome Selena Gomez and Tove Lo. Both had several Top 10 hits before and so “Hands to myself” (#9) and “Moments” (#10) aren’t big surprises in this section.

Last week I had 19 new entries. This week there are 18 more new songs I’m debuting. Almost the half chart was replaced by new songs in the last two weeks. Last week’s highest debut “Wild things” (#27) by Alessia Cara did well in its 2nd week and rose eight spots, but there is one song which sprinted up the chart after debuting last week. It is “Love is” (#57) by Inas X. This song climbed up 35 spots and should reach my Top 40 by next week.

This week’s highest new entry is by one of five acts with an Australian background. Joe Moore was born in the UK and moved with his parents to Australia when he was 16. He was runner-up in the Australian version of “The Voice” and this week I discovered his 2nd official single “Invincible” (#29). “Invincible” has been released back in October last year and reached #68 in Australia. After the first listen I knew that I’ve to chart this song and this song did well and got stronger with every listen. The debut is solid and I think that Joe Moore could do as well as Matt Cardle and Ben Montague did in the past for me. This doesn’t mean that “Invincible” is a sure shot for #1, but this could reach my Top 10.

Two more songs made their debut within the Top 50. Both acts had at least one charting hit before. For the first act we’ve to go back to 2011 when Danish singer Fallulah had her first hit on my chart. With “Out of it” she had a Top 3 hit (in Denmark this song is her only #1 until today) and then she had some minor hits. This week she returned with the fourth single “Perfect tense” (#48) from her upcoming album. Unfortunately most of her songs failed to reach my chart, but with this song she has a good start and maybe she can perform as well as some of her older songs did for me. The other act is from Austria. The Poxrucker Sisters had a surprising hit in 2014 with their debut single “Glick” (“Luck”). This week they returned with their first single “Herzklopfn” (#49, “Beating of the heart”) from their new album. “Herzklopfn” is a nice song, maybe not as good as “Glick”, but we’ll find out in the next weeks.
