Week 285 – August 13th, 2016

A week ago it seemed that I put my chart into a shaker to bring some action on board. Two songs debuted at the top of my chart and several other songs dropped more than ever expected. This week sees also a massive of 16 debuts, but most of these debuts are in the lower (or should I say lowest section) of my charts. Only one of these songs managed to reach a Top 50 debut, so it was a week to calm down. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t new songs in my Top 10, but let’s start with the general Top 10 overview.

Last week Anouk versus JoJo feat. Wiz Khalifa was the cardinal question for the #1 spot. This week this fact hasn’t changed. And for a 2nd week in a row Anouk’s “Wanna little something” (#1) won over the JoJo feat. Wiz Khalifa song “F*ck apologies” (#2). Therefore Kate Voegele’s summer anthem “Must be summertime” (#3) is sticking at #3 for a 2nd week. Behind the Top 3 Swedish singer Miriam Bryant climbed up one spot with her phenomenal “Black car” (#4). New in the Top 5 is the third highest debut from last week. “How’s this” (#5) the club banger from Korean star Hyuna did well in its 2nd week and climbed up one spot. So all three new entries from Week 284 are now in the Top 5.

The 2nd half of my Top 10 is opened with two former #1’s. First you can find Adele’s “Water under the bridge” (#6) which dropped two more spots. Then there is the 2nd best Anouk track in this countdown. “Run away together” (#7) recovered from last weeks drop and climbed up back one spot, but the Top 3 are at the moment out of reach. These former #1’s are followed by three new songs in the Top 10. This means that average amount of weeks of the top songs of my chart is now by about six weeks. Italian singer Emma returned with “Facciamola più semplice” (#8, “Make it easier”). For her this is her 16th Top 10 hit from three albums and six of these songs reached the top spot. Next in line is Julian Le Play. He reached the Top 10 for the first time in his career with “Du schmeckst nach Sommer” (#9, “You taste like summer”). The last but not least new song in this section is “Why” (#10) by Taeyeon. “Why” is her first Top 10 hit and this song is the 2nd K-Pop song in the actual Top 10.

Once more since some weeks this week’s highest debut is from Korean. This time newly formed girl band I.O.I reached their first chart appearance with their 3rd official single “Whatta man (good man)” (#45). Looking over the music chart all over the world several covers and new interpretations can be found in the last years. So let’s have a closer look on my chart. The highest cover actually is “The boys of summer” (#14) by LOLO which had been in last week’s Top 10. Then there is “This girl” (#29) by Kungs vs. Cookin’ On 3 Burners which is a remix of their 2009 song which never charted anywhere. Now there is I.O.I’s single “Whatta man (good man)” which is inspired by the 1968 classic “What a man” by Linda Lyndell and the more successful 1993 version “Whatta man” by Salt-n-Peppa with En Vogue. Around the catchy refrain they built a new song which is quite good. Maybe they reach the Top 20, but as several songs are climbed up to new peaks in their first weeks on chart it is hart to predict where this song will land.
