Week 291 – September 24th, 2016

Last week I announced that I will debut three more songs from Anouk nearly perfect album “Queen for a day”. So this week we will see where these songs will debut on my chart. To compare the debuts let’s have a closer look at the previous singles from this album. Nearly a year before the album was released “New day” got its debut at #49 as a non-album single at this moment. Later “New day” reached #1 by August 1st in 2015. The first official single out of “Queen for a day” had been “Dirty girl”. “Dirty girl” debuted in January and peaked at #8 back in March. Eight weeks ago the 2nd official single “Wanna little something” (#2) debuted at #1 and stayed at the top of my chart for four weeks. “Wanna little something” is still a Top 3 hit in this week’s edition. So you see that every song from this album reached my Top 10. So much for the memories from the past.

This week sees another chart topping debut. For a third time in chart history this debut is by my favourite artist Anouk. Have I mentioned that I love her “Queen for a day” album? If not I’ve to point out that I love this album. Her recent #1 is the album cut “If I knew” (#1). “If I know” isn’t as fast as “Wanna little something”, but this song is my favourite from this album. With this ballad Anouk shot straight to #1. From the first listen I hoped that this song would be released as a regular single, but this won’t happen anymore, because next month she will release her 2nd album this year. “If I knew” is a very sad song. This song is about the situation that a person will never return (or recently passed away) and you aren’t prepared to this fact. The song is all about the voice of Anouk with very little arrangements. With this song she is showing why I’m a fan of her since years now.

“If I knew” is the first of five songs from this album within my Top 22 songs. So the other two songs from this album are also top debuts in this review. But let’s recap the Top 10 first. “If I knew” is at #1 and her former #1 “Wanna little something” (#2) is holding the runner’s up position. So once more Anouk is topping my chart with two songs. Last week’s #1 “Black car” (#3) by Swedish singer Miriam Bryant dropped two spots, but it is still a song for driving around in a car. For the JoJo and Wiz Khalifa cooperation “F*ck apologies” (#4) the time in the Top 3 ends with a drop of one spot. Also dropping one spot is Aura Dione with “Love somebody” (#5). Don’t be sad for her. Her next single “Indian giver” is on its way to my chart.

The 2nd half of my Top 10 is opened by well known singer Selena Gomez. Her album “Revival” is producing several Top 10 hits and the album cut “Sober” (#6) is no exception. This week “Sober” climbed up nine spots to get its first week in the Top 10. Normally “Sober” would be a #1 hit, but the concurrence by Anouk is very hard for the next weeks. Emma is dropping down two spots with “Facciamola più semplice” (#7, “Make it easier”). Also on the way down are “War paint” (#8) by Kelly Clarkson and “How’s this” (#10) by Hyuna. Caught between these two droppers is the 2nd highest new entry. And how could it be otherwise than that this song is from “Queen for a day”. “Not a lovesong” (#9) is the 2nd highest debut in Week 291. In this song Anouk is singing “It’s just another sad song”. The theme of this song is similar to her “Sad singalong songs” album which she released back in 2013. In contrast to the very sad song “If I knew” the sound of this song isn’t slow or reminds me of a sad song. It’s a mid tempo song with an infectious refrain and among my favourites of this album. “Not a lovesong” should do well in the next weeks and complete the Anouk reign of my chart.

Not far behind the Top 10 and the 2nd highest debut by Anouk the last but not least debut by Anouk can be found. It is “Be my baby” (#11) which missed the Top 10 by one spot. “Be my Baby” is more pop orientated than her other songs on this album and this continuous her pervious work on the other albums or her last year’s #1 smash “New day”. In total “Be my baby” is a more carefree love song than her other debuts in this week. As I pointed out before “Not a lovesong” should join the top Anouk songs and of course the same pertain for “Be my baby”. This could lead to a new chart record with four Anouk songs topping my chart in the next edition.
