Week 444 – August 31st, 2019

Back in 2011 I decided to do my personal chart again after some years of absence. Since that some rare things occur which even I rarely can imagine. This week such a thing eventuates. Back in 2011 Swedish band Peter, Bjorn & John sprinted in their 5th week on chart from #16 to #1 with their single “Second chance”. They spent two weeks at the top and later this song became the opening theme from the sitcom “2 broke girls”. It lasted only one year that Celeste Buckingham a Slovak singer of Swiss-American origins reached #1 with “Run run run” which climbed up from #19 to #1 in 2012. This song also only spent two weeks at the top. These two songs were also the only two songs reaching #1 from outside the Top 10 until this week. With this week Kygo & Whitney Houston are joining this club. Their song “Higher love” (#1) became the third song to reach #1 from outside the Top 10 with a climb from #19 to #1. Hopefully this song spends more than two weeks at #1 as the predecessors.

Last week’s #1 “Señorita” (#2) by Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello had to leave the top spot after a single week. Also down one spot is “All the time” (#3) by Zara Larsson. The 2nd new song within the Top 5 is by British singer Freya Ridings. Her song “Castles” (#4) climbed up three spots. The Top 5 is rounded out with former #1 “I am here” (#5) by Pink

Near the Top 5 is “Deine Geschichten” (#6, “Your stories”) by Jeanette Biederman which dropped two spots this week. Next in line is “Taking me back” (#7) by LANY. They are trying to do the next step with this song, but this will be hard. As his other song “If I can’t have you” (#8) by Shawn Mendes dropped. This also applies for “Hi babe” (#9) by Juju. The only song which is holding its spot within the Top 10 is “Ne m’appelle pas” (#10, “Don’t call me”) by Cœur de Pirate.

The highest debut isn’t by an Austrian artist in this week’s edition. Sure it has been tight, but this week US singer Pink has done it with her single “Can we pretend” (#41). I finally bought her album “Hurts 2B human” and now this single and her other song “Hustle” (#58) got their debut. Directly behind the highest debut by Pink the 2nd highest debut can be found. It is the new single by Austrian Mathea. Maybe you remember her with her debut earlier this year with the song “2x” which reached the Top 10. Her second official single “Chaos” failed to enter the chart, but with her 3rd single “Alles Gute” (#42, “Whishing you well”) she returns very strong. For the moment I can say that I like her breakup songs more than her love songs, but the time will tell if she will only have success with such songs. These two songs were the only debuts within the Top 50.
