Week 501 – October 3rd, 2020

 The party is over and now it’s time for business as usual. As last week there are tons of new entries, but first things first. Taylor Swift is replacing herself at #1. “Cardigan” (#2) dropped one spot while “Miss American and the heartbreak prince” (#1) climbed up two spots. By the way this is the first #1 from her album “Lover”. Also down one spot is “Reckoning” (#2) by Alanis Morissette. The chance to see this one at #1 is tending to zero, because of this drop. Up six spots and into the Top 5 is “Midnight skyt” by Miley Cyrus. It is her first Top 5 hit since her #1 smash “Nothing breaks like a heart” back in 2018. This one is followed by the only song in the Top 10 holding its spot. So “Sad song” (#5) Liam Gallagher is still in a good position to stay in the Top 10 until late 2020.

Next in line are two more songs by Taylor Swift. “Paper rings” (#6) climbed up one spot and “Exile” (#7) with Bon Iver also climbed up one spot. The third song in a row climbing up one spot is “90 days” (#8) by Pink feat. Wrabel. Dropping down fast are LANY with their emotional “If this is the last time” (#9). Two weeks ago this song was in the Top 3 (!) and now they are on their way out of the Top 10. Also on their way out of the Top 10 are Kygo & Tina Turner with “What’s love got to do with it” (#10).

This week two songs are awarded with the greatest gainer of the week. Both songs are from Italian singer Emma. “Mascara” (#41) and “Latina” (#42) climbed up 18 spots which is definitely not bad when you look at the number of new entries. Speaking of new entries I’ve to point out that with last week’s 17 debuts there are 35 debuts over the last two weeks. Unfortunately the highest debut failed to enter the Top 50. So “Love will remain” (#63) by Ronan Keating & Clare Bowen got a solid debut, but nothing more. On the other hand I expect a big climb for next week. The 2nd highest debut is by a Norwegian newcomer – at least for me. Lisa Børud is only 24 years old, but she released her debut album back in 2001 at the age of 5. After releasing nine albums in Norwegian she is trying to become more international. “Me without U” (#69) is her 2nd single in English.
