Week 599 – August 20th, 2022

After four weeks at the Top Morgan Wade had to leave with her monster hit “Last cigarette” (#2). It dropped one spot and was replaced by Pale Waves. They score their 1st #1 with “Lies” (#1) from their 3rd album “Unwanted” – which is by the way the 1st album I bought from them. New in the Top 3 is “sad = sexy” (#3) by Austrian singer Esther Graf who had one #1 early this year with “Red flags”. Up two spots and new in the Top 5 is “Jealousy” (#6) which is another hit song by Pale Waves. Dropping two spots is former candidate for #1 “Mariposas” (#5, “Butterflies” (#5) by sangiovanni & Aitana.

“Message in a bottle” (#6) by Taylor Swift had to leave the Top 5 for the first time in five weeks. This song is followed by Muna’s “What I want” (#7) which is holding its spot. Up one spot is “This hell” (#8) by Rina Sawayama. She is constantly releasing singles since the early 2010’s, but she reached the top spheres for the first time with “This hell”. Before that she only charted with “Beg for you” (peaked at #95 earlier this year) where she was featured on a Charli XCX song. Next in line is “Irrelevant” (#9) by Pink which climbed up one spot. This week’s Top 10 is rounded out with the only new song in this section. “You ruined Nirvana” (#10) by Mckenna Grace reached the Top 10 after climbing up 6 spots. For Mckenna Grace this is her 1st Top 10 hit in her young career.

“Stupid” (#39) is awarded with the award for the greatest gainer of the week. This sleeper hit climbed up 13 spots in its 6th charting week. Not far behind you can find the highest debut which is by Ali Gatie. His song “IDK” is debuting at #43 and is now his highest charting song. Before that his 2019 hit “It’s you” (peaked at #75) had done best for him. This song is also the only debut within the Top 50. The 2nd highest debut is by Danish-Japanese singer Mina Okabe. This song has been released in May 2021 and now this song debuts. Sure I’m a little bit late with this one. On the other hand this song has a similar vibe as last years hit “OK love you bye” by Olivia Dean which had been originally released in 2019. So there is a big chance for this song to reach the Top 10.

Other debuts are “Amsterdam” (#76) by Annalisa feat. Alfa, “Dive into you” (#82) by Loving Caliber, “It’s only love, nobody dies” (#84) by Sofia Carson, “I can’t walk away” (#85) by Cold War Kids, “Hair salon” (#87) by Megan Moroney, “Despechá” (#88, “Despise”) by Rosalía, “Alice e il blu” (#89, “Alice and the blue”) by Annalisa – this song has been a regular single by her in 2013, but I haven’t charted back then and was put on the Nuda 10 (deluxe version) –, “La musica è finite (#90, “The music is over”) by Annalisa, “Gave it back broken” (#93) by Callista Clark, “Wild one” (#94) by Kirsty Lee Akers and “Quieres” (#95, “You want”) by Aitana & Emilia & Ptazeta.
