Next in line and also non-moving are “Losers look like me” (#6) and “Time to love, time to kill” (#7). German singer Antje Schomaker is new in the Top 10 with her recent smash “Zeit heilt einen Scheiß” (#8, “Time heals shit”) which isn’t a regular single. In my opinion this one should be released as one. Back in the Top 10 after dominating the chart early this year is Holly Humberstone. Her song “Ghost me” (#9) climbed up six spots and brought her back. She managed to climb into this week’s Top 10 twice. Her other album cut “Cocoon” (#10) climbed up 18 spots and finished in this part too.
After a promising start “Dancing in a hurricane” (#40) by Freya Ridings is sprinting up the chart. This song climbed up 21 spots and is the greatest gainer of the week. As always this leads me to the highest debut. This week it is by a German band which I found out via the German music youtuber Marti Fischer who recently reached the chart with the Shirin David cover “Bauch Beine Po” (“Abs legs butt”) in the style of Ray Charles. In his series “#MartiReacts” (Season 1 episode 2) to your songs he featured the 2023 single “Melodiös” (#54, “Melodic”) by Federhall. I have not heard of them before and I loved this song with the first listen. “Melodiös” is one of their singles from their 2024 album “Tipps zum Verlieben” (“Tips for falling in love”). Unfortunately, I hadn’t time to check out their older or newer singles, but hopefully there is a chance to see them charting with other songs too. This song also reminds me to Austrian singer Falco which isn’t bad either.
Among this week’s debuts are some big surprises. Let’s start with German-French singer Ambre Vallet. She had three minor hits between 2019 and 2021. Her biggest hit is “Fallschirm” (“Parachute”) which peaked at #60 in 2019. Now she returned with two songs at once. She debuts with her actual single “Femme like you” (#78) which is a cover of the 2004 French hit “Femme like you” by K.Maro. Her other debut is “Lieben verlernt” (#85, “Forgotten to love”) which his had released in August 2023. I just re-discovered her over her YouTube shorts where she is interpreting German songs in French or vice versa. A new entry by Rag’n’Bone Man is also a surprise. He charted twice before. The first time had been his debut “Human” (peaked at #60 in 2016) and then with Pink at “Anywhere away from home” (peaked at #37 in 2021). Now he is back with his recent one “Pocket” (#89), but I doubt that this song will lead him into the Top 20. On the other hand, I can’t predict the future so who knows.
In this category falls Jasmine Kara too. Is there someone among you who knows her? The first time I charted her had been back in 2012 with her single “Ain’t no more room” which peaked at #49. Her biggest hit was “Can’t lie to me” which peaked at #18 in 2013. In 2014 she had three more chart entries and then she was never seen on my chart again. In this time span she released several songs in English and in Swedish, but beside her song “Gravity” which peaked at #57 she also failed to enter the charts in Sweden. Now a little more over 10 years later she returned as featured act on the 10 Feet – a Swedish producer team – song “Cuts” (#92).
The US band Jukebox The Ghost are also shouting surprise, surprise. They debuted on my chart with “Empire” (peaked at #60) in 2011. A year later they entered the Top 10 with “Somebody” (peaked at #10). “Don’t let me fall behind” (in 2013) was another hit in the Top 20. In 2014 they scored their only #1 on my chart with “The great unknown” (stayed for two weeks at the top). Their last minor success had been “Postcard” in 2015 which peaked at #91. Next year in April they had a chance to celebrate a ten-year absence on my chart. The party planning is over as they returned this week with their latest single “Truth” (#97).
Another surprise is the entry by German rap singer Shirin David. Everyone who is following my chart will know that I don’t really like rap music. So, it isn’t a surprise that she had rough times to enter my chart. Back in 2019 she had her 1st #1 in Germany with “Gib ihm” (“Own him”). Since that she had five more #1 hits in Germany and two of these songs hit #1 in Austria too. These songs are “90-60-111” (released in 2020) and her most recent one “Bauch Beine Po” which is one of the songs for the summer 2024 in the mention countries. Back in 2023 I debuted her 1st on the anniversary track “Atemlos durch die Nacht” (“Breathless through the night”) by Helene Fischer. Now she got her debut with “It girl” (#79) where she is featuring German rap singer Sampagne. Here I discovered something I hadn’t noticed before. “It girl” had been released as “Rich girl, it girl” on her social media channels and within a day she changed the title to only “It girl”. So don’t get confused when you search and some articles as well as videos on YouTube still reference to the original title. The song itself is interpolating a lot. She is using “Calfornia gurls” by Katy Perry and “Tik Tok” by Ke$ha.
