Week 730– February 22nd, 2025

After five weeks I’ve a new #1. For the first time German singer Antje Schomaker reached the top. Here song “Irgendwo” (#1, “Somewhere”) feat. Eva Briegel climbed up five spots to reach this spot. For Eva Briegel it is also the first time reaching the #1 spot without her band Juli who had their last #1 hit back in 2022 with “Fette wilde Jahre” (“Big wild years”). Still in the hunt is “Love letter” (#2) by Knox. This also means that last week’s #1 “That’s so true” (#3) by Gracie Abrams dropped two spots. Up one spot is another song from Madeline Juno’s upcoming new album. Her song “Reservetank” (“Reserve tank”) is now at #4. Last week in the Top 3 and this week at #5 is “Baby tu” (“Baby you”) by Luca Vasta.

Knox has still three songs in the Top 10, but with the two-spot drop by “Not The 1975” (#6) there is only one in the Top 5. Leslie Clio is up two spots with her single “Just friends” (#7) which has the potential to end within the Top 5. Next in line are the two Top 10 hits by ROSÉ. The higher ranked one is former #1 “Number one girl” (#8). The other is still “Toxic till the end” (#9). Both songs dropped one spot. Rounding out this week’s Top 10 is “Miss when you missed me” (#10) by Knox feat. Nightly.

Over the last weeks the greatest gainer climbed up 14 spots which is pretty low. This week the award goes to LISA feat. Doja Cat & Raye for their song “Born again” (#67). This song climbed up 11 spots which is less than in the previous weeks and I’ve not seen coming. That leads me as always to this week’s highest debut. Interestingly there are two songs debuting in the Top 20 which has become very rare over the years.

Sometimes stranger things can happen. When I’m looking over this week’s debuts there are strange things happening. Let’s talk about this week’s top debuts. First to mention is the German act ok.danke.tschüss. They released their first song back in October 2018. They haven’t been on my radar until they just released their current single “Was passiert” (#15, “What happens”). So nearly six and a half year later they got their chart debut. As there are school holidays, I had time to check out their music, but here I’ve to point out that I hadn’t missed anything relevant for me. Nevertheless, they got a chart debut in the Top 20 and I’m sure that this song will end in the Top 10. Unfortunately, I don’t see a bright future for them on my chart as I don’t like their other stuff.

Also debuting in the Top 20 is a British boy band. This is also a very rare event. Long gone are the times when the Backstreet Boys, Take That or One Direction had their prime. One of my most favourite boy bands I discovered since 2011 was the Finnish band Satin Circus who had three #1 hits during their active career (disbanded in 2018) which had been “Emma” in 2013, “If you love me” also in 2013 and “Crossroads” in 2015. And there is also the Austrian band Tagtraeumer who had their first #1 hit with their first single “Sinn” (“Sense”) in 2014. Other than them it’s very hard to remember debuts by boy bands until this week. On the other hand, I’m definitely listing more to female singer than to male singer. Now let’s welcome British band Absnt Mind with their debut single “No strings” (#19) which had been released in June 2024 and now it is a big hit for me. This isn’t the only song from 2024 which finally got its debut with this week’s edition.

Another interesting debut is by German act TOCHTER. ok.danke.tschüss released their first song in 2018 and a year later TOCHTER started. With the bands 2nd single “Kapitän” (“Captain”) they charted in 2019, but after two week they had to leave. Now they return with their September 2024 single “Steine” (#76, “Stones”). Even crazier is the absence by COSBY. They had two minor hits in 2014 with “Boon & bane” and “Step by step”. More than 10 years later they are back with “Crazy” (#45) which is now easily their biggest hit with a Top 50 debut. Also celebrating his comeback is Fabian Wegerer with “Bunker aus Beton” (#75, “Concrete bunker”) who had his only chart hit in 2017 with “Meerweh” (“Sea hurts”). Every now and then German singer Joris had minor success on my chart. Now he returns four years after his last song on my chart with “So schnell vorbei” (#78, “Over so quickly”). Also returning after four years is Austrian singer OSKA with “The final straw” (#91).

And there is a song called “Wackelkontack” (#80, “Loose contact”) by German singer Oimara debuting after reaching #1 in Germany and Austria. This is his first #1 and the song is considered as “Après Ski” hit and was played a lot during Ski Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. The lyrics are pretty nonsense as you can see from the open line

I’m not into this kind of music, but the song itself remembers me of songs from “Neue Deutsche Welle” (NNW) back in the 1980’s along all-time favourites “Da Da Da”, “99 Luftballons, “Bruttosozialprodukt”, “Codo … düse im Sauseschritt” or “Raumschiff Edelweiß” – which was a dancefloor hit by an Austrian band short after NNW – and many more. Not to forget about Austrian band EAV who were my childhood favourites. As I’m in my 40’s I grow up with this kind of songs so I can relate to this song. Only the future will tell if “Wackelkontakt” will become a favourite of mine. The other rare fact is that a cover (#81) of this song also got its debut this week. German act Brennholz is normally a band releasing songs from the Genre “Volksmusik”, but with this cover they found their way on my chart.

Other debuts are “Ain’t no” (#96) by Thomas Mac, “Lovebomber” (#95) by Dani Josie, “Vakuum” (#70, “Vacuum”) by Luna Antonia, “Body to you” (#92) by Thala, “Aperol im Glas” (#86, “Aperol in a glass”) by LEA & 01099 and “Ohne verlieben” (#88, “Without falling in love”) by LEA.
