Week 169 – May 24th, 2014

After last week’s comeback for the history books Tagträumer continued their success. For a 4th non-consecutive week they stayed at the top with “Sinn”. Climbing up one was Anouk with her former #1 “I won’t play that game” (#2). New within the top 3 is British singer Birdy. For a long time “Light me up” (#3) duelled with “Sleeping with a friend” (#5) by Neon Trees. Now it seems that Birdy has the better end. For Cuban singer Chila Lynn the dream of a #1 ended suddenly. “When love …” (#6) dropped down four spots from #2. Finally Taylor Swift reached Top 10 with “I almost do” (#9) which replaced Tone Damli’s “Heartkill” (#12).

Outside the Top 10 the big waiting has begun. Rita Ora’s “I will never let you down” (#13) also climbed up two spots like Ewelina Lisowska’s “W stronę słońca” (#11). Both songs are in a good position for entering next week’s Top 10. For both, Rita Ora and Ewelina Lisowska could it be their first Top 10 hit. Ace Wilder’s lazy song “Busy doin’ nothin’ “(#14) has fresh sound and I really like when she is singing the refrain with “Don't wanna work, work, work; I wanna make money while I sleep”. I think it’s nice making money while sleeping, but not practically feasible. Two songs entered the section between 11 and 20 for the for the first time. Foxes with “Let go for tonight” (#18) only has an outside chance for a Top 10 placement while Jillette Johnson’s latest album cut I’m charting has a very, very good outlook. “Peter Pan” (#19) climbed up four spots and could do the next step soon.

Andreas Bourani’s first hit on my chart has been “Alles nur in meinem Kopf” back in 2011. Three years later he reached his first #1 in Germany with his actual single “Auf uns” (#28). In Switzerland and Austria this song didn’t do as well as in Germany. On my chart “Auf uns” climbed up 45 spots to a new peak in its 2nd week. Therefore “Auf uns” is the greatest gainer of the week. Last week’s highest new entry “When we were young” (#55) by Lucy Schwartz only could hold the spot.

This week’s highest new entry comes from the USA. Back in the 1990’s a band of brothers stormed the charts with “MmmBop”. For the band Hanson this song had been their biggest hit up-to-date. Now a new band of brothers is set about doing the same thing. OBB how The Oswald Brothers Band is calling themselves released their first single “All eyes on you” (#58) in February. But now this pretty cool song is debuting on my chart and should do well outside too. Among the other new entries there are the last three album cuts from Matt Cardle’s 2nd album “The fire”. The title track “The fire” (#78) is the highest debut out of these three songs. The others are “All that matters” (#87) and “The first time I saw your face” (#88).

Nearly one year ago Finnish boy band Satin Circus debuted with their first single “Emma” straight in the Top 10. Later “Emma” topped the chart for four weeks. Their follow up “If you love me” topped the chart in December 2013 for one week. Now the third single “Expectations” (#93) is out. What should I say? I had really high expectations, but “Expectations” didn’t meet them. They almost didn’t reach the Top 100. This song isn’t what I’m looking from them so it seems clear that “Expectations” will maybe go out of the chart soon. Another band is also not meeting my expectations. Back in 2011 I bought the album “Belong” by The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. Their first single “Simple and sure” (#98) of their new album “Days of abandon” also is way behind their early success.
