Week 182 – August 23^rd, 2014

After a week of little movement there is some movement this week, but not at the top of the chart. Emma’s “Ma che vita fai” (#1) scores her 2nd week at the top which brings her a total of 18 weeks topping the chart. She is followed by US Indie Pop band Jukebox The Ghost. Their smash “The great unknown” (#2) climbed up one spot and is now ready for the fight for the top. While Emma had six #1’s “The great unknown” could be Jukebox The Ghost’s first. Also fighting for their first #1 are German band Juli. Since their Top 10 debut “Insel” (#3) is going up continually. On its way down is “Mein Herz (für immer)” (#4) by Austrian Tagträumer. They spent only one week at the top, but the concurrence prevented them to stay longer. “Mein Herz (für immer)” is still a very good song, but “Sinn” (#48) is out of reach. “Problem” (#5) by Ariana Grande feat. Iggy Azaela completes the Top 5.

Marlene’s “Indian summer” (#6) opens the next part of the chart. Directly behind is former #1 “Peter Pan” (#7) by Jillette Johnson. She is followed by one song of Taylor Swift’s last album “Red”. “Starlight” (#8) shot up 8 spots this week which brings her the 7th Top 10 hit. Certainly it’s not “Starlight” what the world is talking about her now. It’s her new single “Shake it off” from her upcoming album “1989”. “Shake it off” couldn’t be found in this week’s edition, but maybe next week. “Starlight” replaced “Can’t break a broken heart” (#13) by Nick Howard. Cro lost a spot with “Traum” (#10) while “Run” (#9) by Chasing Grace climbed up one spot.

Like every week several songs are trying to reach a Top 10 spot. This week Maroon 5 missed the Top 10 by one spot with “Maps” (#11). Therefore Cris Cab had to leave this spot and his “Loves me not” (#12) went down one. Interesting to see is Avril Lavigne’s climbe with “Give you what you like” (#15). In its 12th week on the chart this song is still going up and now a Top 10 spot isn’t out of reach. This song is growing more and more on me and the next weeks will show if this song is her 3rd Top 10 hit out of her last album. The greatest gainer of the week is “Wir schmeißen unsere Herzen ins Feuer” (“We are throwing our hearts into the fire”, #22) by Revolverheld. This song climbed up 14 spots like “Over my head” (#65) by Elen Levon.

The first time I heard the highest new entry was a long time ago during the M4B song contest. I really liked this song by the first listen. Now Fitz and The Tantrums decided to release “Fools gold” (#34) as a regular single and it is their first single since “MoneyGrabber” which has a realistic chance to enter the Top 10. This song has an absolutely infecting sound and a catchy refrain that makes this song special. The other debut within in the Top 50 is a country song. It’s “Girl in a country song” (#50) by Maddie & Tae. There debut single criticizes some recently released country songs by well known male artists. I like this song, but at the moment I can’t predict if this song will end in the Top 20.

Other debuts are “You gave me love” (#58) by Macy Kate, “Lullaby” (#59) by Professor Green feat. Tori Kelly, “Somethin’ bad” (#62) by Miranda Lambert feat. Carrie Underwood, “Beautiful times” (#85) by Owl City feat. Lindsey Stirling, “Team” (#86) by Lorde, “Fancy” (#87) by Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX, “A million little peaces” (#88) by Placebo, “Wildfire” (#96) by Julian Perretta, “Arrows” by Fences feat. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and “Next best thing” (#99) by Sam Tsui.
