Week 183 – August 30th, 2014

Finally Jukebox The Ghost reached the top spot with their incredible “The great unknown”. A month ago the debuted within the Top 20 and now they let a lot of well known artists behind. Jukebox The Ghost replaced Emma’s “Ma che vita fai” (#2) which only stayed for two weeks at the top. At #3 German Juli are lurking for the sun shining spot with “Insel”. “Insel” is the perfect easy listing song for topping the chart for a long time if Jukebox The Ghost will give up this position. Austrian local heroes Tagträumer are holding the spot with “Mein Herz (für immer)” (#4) like Ariana Grande feat. Iggy Azalea with “Problem” (#5).

Last week Taylor Swift entered with one of her last songs from “Red” the Top 10. “Starlight” (#6) climbed up two spots and is knocking at the door to the Top 5. Still in Neverland is Jillette Johnson with “Peter Pan” (#7). Maybe it’s time for her to leave the Top 10 with this song, but for this week she is still in. Marlene is also on her way out with “Indian summer” (#8) which dropped two spots. The Top 10 is closed with two new songs. For whom it was time to enter this part of the chart. First to mention is Maroon 5. “Maps” (#9) is their 2nd Top 10 hit following “Love somebody” which also peaked at #9 last year. Then there is Cris Cab. After a very good debut within the Top 20 it seemed that he would never reach the Top 10 with “Loves me not” (#10). This week he eliminated this mistake with a climb of two spots.

Cris Cab and Maroon 5 replaced Cro with “Traum” (#15) and Chasing Grace with “Run” (#13). And now I’m proudly pronounce this week’s highest new entry. This song missed the Top 10 by only one spot which gives the female singer an incredible debut. And no it’s not Taylor Swift who I’m talking about. It’s Hilary Duff’s “All about you” (#11) which caught my attention while her comeback single “Chasing the sun” not even reached my chart. With her 2nd single from her upcoming album she got her 1st chart appearance. The refrain is extremely catchy, the hook is impressing and the chorus is powerful. Everything is ready for reaching the Top 10 by next week. And if it happens nothing unforeseen Hilary Duff could reach the top spot.

Then there is Taylor Swift. With her last album “Red” she had two #1's with “We are never ever getting back together” and “I knew you were trouble” and several other songs reached Top 10. “Shake it off” (#26) is the 1st single from her upcoming new album “1989”. “Shake it off” isn’t really comparable with her former #1’s, but she going the whole pop way with this song. For me it’s not the question if she is doing country or pop. I like most of her songs. Some more than others. This song is also very catchy and infectious and should perform very well on my chart. At the moment I believe there will be a battle between Jukebox The Ghost, Juli, Hilary Duff and Taylor Swift for the top spot in the next weeks. All other songs are good too, but in the long run these are the songs I see topping my chart.

But there is always room for outsiders like the songs which sprinted up this weeks chart. First to mention is the greatest gainer of the week “Lullaby” (#27). Professor Green’s latest single particularly dependent on the voice of Tori Kelly. Her interpretation of the refrain brings this song to an unexpected level for me. Directly behind is “You gave me love” (#28) by Macy Kate. If not overtaken by “Lullaby” “You gave me love” would have been easily this week’s greatest gainer. Normally “Right on” by Nadine Beiler’s “Right on” (#60) would be shortlisted to this award too, but climbing up 24 spots didn’t last out like a 18 spot climb by The Script’s “Superheores” (#35).

Beside the two mentioned top debuts there are eleven more new entries. These are “Maintenant ou jamais” ("Now or never", #39) by Tal feat. Dry, “When you were my girl” (#53) by Matt Cardle, “The unknown” (#54) by Madeline Juno, “Drunk tonight” (#56) by Emmelie de Forest, “Gladiator” (#73) by 77 Bombay Street, “Rainbow” (#74) also by 77 Bombay Street, “Glick” (“Luck”, #89) by Poxrucker Sisters, “Love-a-holic” (#91) by Manda, “Jealous (I ain’t with it)” (#94) by Chromeo, “Talking dreams” (#96) by Echosmith and “I finally found it” (#97) by Miss Li.
