Week 184 – September 6th, 2014

Last week Jukebox The Ghost replaced Emma at the top of the chart. This week “The great unknown” (#1) could withstand the pressure and is topping the chart again. Juli continued to hold the pressure high with a 3-2 climb with “Insel”. And then there is Hilary Duff. “All about you” (#3) debuted at #11 last week and climbed up eight spots. This powerful song overtakes the other songs by storm and is completing this week’s podium. There was no spot at the podium for former #1 “Ma che vita fai” (#4) free, because “All about you” did a powerful performance this week. The Top 5 is completed by Austrian local heroes Tagträumer with “Mein Herz (für immer)” (#5).

For a 2nd week in a row Taylor Swift missed the Top 5 by one spot with “Starlight” (#6). It’s hard to compete with such great songs, but in the end she will conquer this barrier. Two more former #1’s are on their way down. Generally this week hasn’t been the week for former #1’s. Except a two spot climb by Emma’s “L’amore non mi basta” (#56) non of the others climbed up this week. For “Problem” (#7) by Ariana Grande feat. Iggy Azalea it was going down two spots and for “Peter Pan” (#8) by Jillette Johnson one spot. Beside Hilary Duff’s “All about you” there is another new song in the Top 10. It’s another song by Ariana Grande. “Break free” (#9) climbed up three spots and brought Ariana Grande her 2nd Top 10 hit and Zedd his first. The Top 10 is completed by Marlene’s “Indian summer” (#10)

“Give you what you like” (#11) by Avril Lavigne made another leap of three spots and is know in front of the door to the Top 10. If she is going through this door this song could reach Top 10 for the first time in its 15th week which would be a new record. But I think Melissa Steel, Amelia Lily, Revolverheld or Fitz and The Tantrums have something against this record. They are trying hard to get the first or another Top 10 hit. Reggae, pop, German Pop or a ballad is the question for next when normally “Peter Pan” and “Indian summer” were replaced. It’s hard to see which of these songs will do this last step, but all of these songs would have earned it.

The greatest gainer of the week comes from an Austrian newcomer trio. The Poxrucker Sisters are presenting their 2nd single “Glick” (#89) which climbed up 32 spots. The first time I listened to this song I thought “Okay, should I like it?”. Now I answer with yes and I would press the “I like” button. I really like this song now and it reminds me to the Irish band The Corrs. “Breathless” and “Radio” are one of my favourite songs by this band and “Glick” could have been out of this area. The sound is absolutely comparable with The Corrs and after a few listens to this song you can’t get this song outta your head. This is a good sign and therefor a Top 20 placement is absolutely in reach.

Generally this edition is special. For the first time in the Top 100 area there is only one official single debut. Sure there are eight debuts this week, but only one of these songs has been released as an official single. It’s “Wildfire” (#68) by Sam Tsui which is the third “Wildfire” song in the last weeks reaching the chart, but so far this song by Sam Tsui did best. The highest new entry is another album track by Jillette Johnson’s “Water in a whale” debut album. “Heathen” (#64) did a little bit better than “Butterfly cather” (#65) Jillette Johnson’s 2nd debut this week.

The other new songs are “Hit the ground runnin’” (#85) by Haley Reinhart, “Radio” (#92) by Lana Del Rey, “Always be together” (#94) by Little Mix, “Glass houses” (#97) by The Classic Crime and “Trapeze” (#98) by Dia Frampton.
