Week 186 – September 20th, 2014

At the beginning of 2014 several songs stayed a long time at the top. Including the nine week run by Emma with “L’amore non mi basta” (#69). Now things changed. There is a rapid change at the top spot. With the takeover by Hilary Duff’s “All about you” (#1) the fifth song within seven weeks is topping the chart. “All about you” replaced “Insel” (#2) by Juli. I can’t predict if Hilary Duff is staying longer, because at #3 there is another song which is reaching for the top spot. This song isn’t a song I mentioned some weeks ago which could by my top song of the week. It’s a new song.

Do you remember edition 158 in March? No? OK, this week was very special. At #1 Anouk debuted with her non album single “You & I” (#51) and at #2 she shot straight in with her live single “I won’t play that game” (#50). So far two of her three released singles this year had a Top 3 debut. And single No. 4 is continuing this trend. Last week she released the first single from her upcoming new album “Paradise and back again”. “Places to go” (#3) didn’t as well as “You & I” or “I won’t play that game” in there debut week, but a Top 3 debut is still very, very good. “Places to go” isn’t a dance song like “You & I” or “Feet on the ground”, but it isn’t a pure rock song either. I’m glad that this song isn’t in the direct of her last album “Sad singalong songs”. I like depressive songs, but this album was still too much even for me. So I’m joyful that this song I happier. The direction of this new album is good, but I hope that Anouk don’t forget rock songs on this new album, because this is why I got into her music.

While Anouk is debuting within the Top 3 Jukebox The Ghost with “The great unknown” (#4), Taylor Swift with “Starlight” (#5) and Emma with “Ma che vita fai” (#6) are dropping down one spot. Moving upwards are Fitz and The Tantrums. Their song “Fools gold” (#7) climbed up one and could reach a Top 5 spot by next week if … . If not Taylor Swift’s “Shake it off” (#8) isn’t doing better. This week “Shake it off” climbed up seven spots and brings the first single out of her new album “1989” into the Top 10. The Top 10 itself is closed by Tagträumer’s “Mein Herz” (für immer)” (#9) and Ariana Grande’s “Break free” (#10).

Two songs had to say goodbye to the Top 10. The first one is former #1 “Problem” (#13) by Ariana Grande feat. Iggy Azzalea. And the 2nd one is “Give you what you like” (#12) by Avril Lavinge who got the record for the slowest climb into the Top 10 by last week. Directly behind the Top 10 droppers the 2nd best new entry can be found. It’s by an Indie Pop/Rock band from Ohio. Back in 2012 the got the first attention, but their singles failed to impress me so they had no chart hit until this week’s edition. With “Shut up and dance” (#14) Walk the Moon got an unexpected high debut. When I first listened to this song there were no signs that this song will entered the Top 20 directly. With every listen I got caught by this song and at the end the catchiness of the refrain led them to a very high new entry.

And there are two more new entries within the Top 50. Maroon 5’s latest single out of “V” “Animals” (#32) debuted directly behind the greatest gainer of the week which is for a 2nd time “Glick” (#31) by Poxrucker Sisters. Maroon 5 reached several Top 20 hits with their last album and a Top 10 hit with “Maps” (#27) which peaked at #9. “Animals” has the power to enter the Top 10 too. The last but not least Top 50 debut comes by another newcomer. New Zealand’s Indie Pop duo Broods had released four singles in 2014 so far. Three of these songs entered the Top 40 and “Bridges” was a Top 10 hit in their home country. Until this week they had it very hard. None of these singles made it into my chart. Their latest single “Everytime” (#42) from their debut album “Evergreen” brought them a solid debut.

Marilyn Manson, “Here for a reason” (#84) by Ashes Remain, “New York City” (#85) by Lenny Kravitz, “The miracle (of Joey Ramone) (#86) by U2, “Favorite song” (#87) by O.A.R., “Buried under” (#88) by Connie Britton, “Tie you up” (#89) by Angelika Vee and “She knows me” (#99) by Bryan Adams.
