Week 185 – September 13th, 2014

With an easy German pop song Juli took the top of the chart by storm. “Insel” (#1, “Island”) is the bands first #1 on my chart, because their other releases were in the area between my charts and “Elektrisches Gefühl” had been released several months before I began charting again, but it reached a Top 10 spot in my first edition back in 2011. Juli is followed by Hilary Duff. It took “All about you” (#2) only three weeks to reach the runners up position. It had been a tough decision between Juli and Hilary Duff for this week’s #1. By midweek I tended to Hilary Duff, but with a strong finished Juli grabbed their first #1. The podium is completed by last weeks #1. “The great unknown” (#3) by Jukebox The Gost dropped down two spots after topping the chart for two weeks. While “Shake it off” (#15) reached its first week within the Top 20, “Starlight” (#4) by Taylor Swift reached the Top 5 with a 6-4 climb. The last spot in this section was left over for one of my core artists in the last three years. Emma’s “Ma che vita fai” (#5) dropped one spot.

Catchy “Mein Herz (für immer)” (#6) is struggling a little bit in the last weeks, but for Tagträumer a perfect year is going on. They are still working on their debut album. Unfortunately there is no actual release date. “Mein Herz (für immer)” is followed by Ariana Grande’s 2nd strike from her new album. “Break free” (#7) climbed 9-7 and is now Ariana’s best charting song, because “Problem” (#9) went the other direction with a 7-9 drop. Between the two songs by Ariana Grande is a new act. US Indie Pop band Fitz and the Tantrums entered the Top 10 for the first time in their carrier. “Fools gold” (#8) outperformed easily their biggest hit “Moneygrabber” (peaked at #13 back in July 2011) with a climb of eight spots. And finally Avril Lavigne got the record for the slowest climb into the Top 10 with “Give you what you like” (#10). It took her 15 weeks to get there. Most of the songs I’m charting are far away from a Top 10 spot in their 15th week on chart or they don’t even get a 15th week on chart. I shouldn’t say this will be a record for eternity, because last year Natália Kelly reached the Top 10 after 14 weeks with “Shine”. But this is maybe near to it.

Looking over my new entries you could guess at a glance which TV serial I’m watching at the moment. 6 out of 10 new songs are from “Nashville”. Sure I’m late with this TV serial. But first I do not watch pay TV so I had to wait for a DVD release and second I was not sure about this serial, because I’m not a big country fan at all although I charted several country songs in the last years with some reaching #1. The highest new entry and the highest from “Nashville” is “I will fall” (#31) performed by Clare Bowen & Sam Palladio. I really like this ballad and I personally think, after watching only a few episodes, that Clare Bowen is the best female singer in this show so far. More than 30 spots behind is the 2nd “Nashville” song. It’s “Telescope” (#64) by Hayden Panettiere. It’s an interesting song, but at the moment I could say if the chances are high for reaching Top 20.

Beside the two mentioned debuts “Calm after the storm” (#63) by The Common Linnets, “If I didn’t know better” (#65) by Clare Bowen & Sam Palladio, “More of you” (#73) and “BulletProofAngel” (#75) by Goo Goo Dolls, “Boys and buses” (#80) by Hayden Panettiere, “Fade into you” (#81) by Clare Bowen & Sam Palladio, “Undermine” (#82) by Hayden Panettiere & Charles Esten and “Angel” (#86) by Theory of a Deadman gave their debut.
