Week 266 – April 2nd, 2016

The new month is opening with a new #1. For the first time Gwen Stefani is catching the top spot. Solo she had some hits for me back in the phase when I had no chart, but surely her biggest hit for me is still “Don’t speak” with No Doubt. “Make me like you” (#1) is on its way to be a favourite of mine. I loved this song with the very first second I listend to this song and it was only a matter of time when she grabbed the #1. This last climb to #1 placed Adele’s “When we were young” (#2) to the runner’s-up position. Still at the podium is Selena Gomez with “Hands to myself” (#3). Long lasting “New bohemia” (#4) is holding a spot in the Top 5 for now nine weeks. The only song which reached a spot in the Top 5 for the first time is “Wild things” (#5) by Alessia Cara.

Alessia Cara replaced Leslie Clio. “Damage done” (#6) is now in its 14th week in the Top 10 and still is among my most played songs. But “Damage done” isn’t the only song by German Leslie Clio in this list. The album cut “Changes” (#35) climbed up 17 spots and is awaited for an arival in the Top 10 by next. “Changes” is a little bit different to Leslie Clio’s recent #1’s, because it is more a soft ballad that a power song, but this difference is helping this song to do so well on my chart.

Enough about Leslie Clio. There is a lot more to write about this week’s Top 10. Last week I wrote about songs in a shortlist which are able to reach the Top 10. Three of these songs managed to reach this part. For Sean Paul the “dream of a Top 10 hit on my chart” came true. Since this week he has not only one but two songs in my Top 10. Featured on Sia’s “Cheap thrills” he reached #7 and featured on Jay Sean’s “Make my love go” he reached #8. While Sean Paul has now two Top 10 hits in his pocket Sia and Jay Sean have each one. Last but not least new song in the Top 10 is “Invincible” (#10). For Australian Joe Moore it is also his first hit this region of my chart.

Last week the highest new entry had been outside the Top 70’s. This week there is only one new song which reached my Top 50. It is from a new country singer. Tennesse native Tara Thompson recently released her debut single “Someone to take your place” (#38) and a video for her debut. She described this song as light-hearted with sassy lyrics which is absolutely true. Although this is a break up song from the women’s point of view the lyrics made me smile. “Someone to take your place” is a fresh start into the country scence and I hope that there will be some songs by her in the future which will excite me as this song is doing.
