Week 268 – April 16th, 2016

Due to personal reasons there hasn’t been a review for edition 267. This week I’m back with some words about edition 268 of April 16th. For a third week in a row Gwen Stefani is in the leading position with “Make me like you” (#1). This beautiful song is holding off Adele’s masterpiece “When we were young” (#2) which could also be found in runner’s-up position for a third concecutive week. Adele and Gwen Stefani are rocking my chart now for five weeks and there are only at the beginn of their chart run.

So they should dominate my chart for some more weeks if … Yes there are two songs which could break this domination. First to mention is “Bis es weh tut” (#4, “Until it hurts”). This German gem by Luxuslärm and Max Mutzke is the most beautiful German song in the short 2016. For both “Bis es weh tut” could be the first #1 on my chart and for Max Mutzke it could also be the first #1 with the first chart entry. Since the debut this song is rising fast and “Bis es weh tut” is still getting more airplay on my playlist. The other song which is a possible #1 is “Changes” (#7) by Leslie Clio. “Changes” could be the next #1 from her “Eureka” album. Her first had been “My heart ain’t that broken” (#80) which recently surpased the one-year-mark on my chart. Immediately after this breakthrough song “Be with you” reached #1. And then there had been “All the other fools” and “Eureka” in 2012 as well as this year’s #1 “Damage done” (#11) which just dropped out of the Top 10. So within a year Leslie Clio topped my chart for 19 weeks and “Changes” could expand the time on #1 for an artist.

The Top 5 is closed by former #1 “Hands to myself” (#5) by Selena Gomez. Her follow up “Kill em with kindness” hasn’t found its way on this list, but this song is ready for a debut within the next weeks. “Make my love go” (#6) by Jay Sean feat. Sean Paul was replaced in the Top 5 by “Until it hurts” which makes this song the only song dropping out of the Top 5 this week. “New bohemia” (#8) dropped two spots and it is absolutely in range that this song will leave the Top 10 next week. Since releasing her album “Adesso” it is really hard for Emma to affiliate with her hits from the past. On the other hand “Io di te non ho paura” (#9, “I’m not afraid of you”) is a Top 10 hit. Not bad for a song from an album which isn’t as good as her past two albums. The Top 10 is rounded out with the first Top 10 hit by US country star Cam. “Mayday” (#10) climbed up three spots and reached this part in its 11th week on chart.

Last week’s highest debut was by Swedish act Peter Bjorn & John. Most of you’ll remember them from their biggest hit “Young folks” which isn’t a song I would have charted if I had a chart in this year. They only placed two more songs in the UK chart, but elswhere they had no more hit. Possibly some of you’re fans of the sitcom “Two Broke Girls”. In that case you’ll know another song by them. The title song of this sitcom is the 2nd single “Second chance” of their 2011 album “Gimme some”. Long story short “Second chance” had been their only chart hit on my chart. Back in June 2011 “Second chance” reached #1 after a 15 spot climb in its fifth week on chart. Only one song climbed up more spots to reach #1 which had been “Run run run” by Celeste Buckingham back in 2012. Until last week Peter Bjorn & John had been a one-hit-wonder on my chart, but with debuting “What you talking about?" (#13) they slough off this image.

This week the highest new entry is by well known Austrian singer Christina Stürmer. Recently she announced that she is giving birth of her first child. And since some weeks her new single “Seite an Seite” (#30, “Side by side”) is getting radio airplay. Finally last week this single was uploaded to Spotify and now you could find her new one on my chart. “Seite an Seite” is following the direction of her biggest hits as Mama (Ana Ahabak) or her last year’s smash “Was irgendwie bleibt” (“What remains somehow”). It is a good song which has to grow on me a little bit more, but with some weeks to go this could be her next Top 10 hit on my chart. The only other debut within the Top 50 is also from Austria. Newcomer band “Flowrag” released their debut single “Helden” (#46, “Heros”) and got a fresh start on my chart. It is a nice song and it is absolutely possible that this song will reach my Top 20.

Other debuts are “Best fake smile” (#55) by James Bay, “You & me” (#60) by The Hunna, “Like ‘em young” (#84) and “Thousand miles” (#85) by Tove Lo, “Where we belong” (#95) by Hugel & Jasmine Thompson, “Small town girl” (#97) by Troy Kremp, “Schwoaz weiß” (#98 “Black white”) by Gnackwatschn and “Sit here and cry” (#100) by Aubrie Sellers.
