Week 298 – November 12th, 2016

At the moment when I review my chart I only have to point out that Anouk is still leading with four songs and that Selena Gomez is caught in between. This week is no difference. “If I knew” (#1) is topping my chart for an eight consecutive week. For a third week “Not a lovesong” (#2) is hanging at the runner’s-up position and this song is followed by “Be my baby” (#3). You see? There is no chance for a change. Maybe someone is asking where Selena Gomez can be found with “Sober”. The answer is the same as last week, as the week before and before and before … . “Sober” is caught at #4. This song is still splitting the Anouk pack, because “Wanna little something” is at #5.

Beside the non-moving Top 5 there are some more non-movers in my Top 10. These are “Awesome” (#6) by Nicole Cross and “Love in the dark” (#7) by Adele. Finally there is some action in my Top 10. Directly behind all these non-movers a new song can be found. It is an album cut from Leslie Clio’s album “Eureka”. “Remedy” (#8) climbed up six spots in its 7th week on chart for reaching this part. Last week “Anymore” (#9) by Melanie C entered the Top 10 and this week it climbed up one spot. The final spot goes to “Tordenkys” (#10, “Thunder kiss”) by Maia. Danish newcomer Maia has released with her Danish song about a thunder kiss an absolutely cool song with a catchy refrain although I don’t understand a single word. “Tordenkys” is the first song in Danish reaching my Top 10.

Heavily knocking at the door to the Top 10 are two songs I mentioned last week. The first is the rock ballad “How did you love?” (#11) by Shinedown. The 2nd one is Kelly Clarkson’s album cut “Nostalgic” (#12). Both should soon enter the Top 10. Also doing well are some songs with outside chances. Club banger “Sexual” (#16) by Neiked climbed up three spots in its 9th week on chart. Do you remember where “In my blood” (#17) by The Veronicas started? Yes, they debuted outside the Top 90 and now they reached the Top 20 with a climb of four spots. Another song which reached the Top 20 very late is the country song “Road less travelled” (#19) by Lauren Alaina. In its 9th week it climbed 12 spots to do so well. Between these last two songs I pointed out is German band Glasperlenspiel with their latest single “Für immer” (#18, “For always”) which rose up eight spots.

The highest two new entries are by a K-Pop girl band. I first noticed them when they released the double single “Square one” with “Whistle” and “Boombayah” (#44). This week they came back with their next double single “Square two”. “Whistle” and “Boombayah” are very distinctive. Their highest debut is “Playing with fire” (#39) which is more dance oriented in the direction to “Boombayah”, but possibly the last kick is missing. On the other hand it is another catchy song by them. The other one is “Stay” (#40). This song is more a K-Pop ballad which I’m normally not a fan of, but “Stay” is catchy. With its “Lalalalalala” and the melodic it is growing more and more for me which I never thought when I first listened to this song. The next weeks will show if these songs are able to outperform “Boombayah”, but everything is possible.

Bonnie McKee missed a Top 50 debut by one spot. She had only one chart entry with “American girl” some years ago. Her singles from her “Boombastic EP” disappointed, so I wasn’t sure to give her new one – also from this EP – a change. I didn’t regret it. “Easy” (#51) is very good song with 90’s vibes, but not from the Eurodance songs I listed too in this part of my life as a teenager. I love this song and it should do well for her. Next debut in line is from the TV series “Empire”. Serayah McNeill is portraying R&B singer Tiana Brown. Her single in this show “Adios” (#55) is interesting and got a solid debut. The last debut in the Top 60 is by Alex Da Kid and some more chart proven artists. “Not easy” (#60) hasn’t so many lyrics so it is easy to understand for non-native speakers. I like the sound of this song and so it got a solid debut.

Other new songs which can be found in this edition are “Ain’t love strange” (#62) by Stanaj, “Runaway train” (#81) and “Half broke heart” (#82) by Cam, “Mit jedem Takt” (#83, “With every beat”) by Fräulein Mai, “Bad girl” (#85) by Serayah McNeill & V. Bozeman, “Vivienne” (#86) by Sundara Karma, “Wake up where you are” (#95) by State Of Sound and “I’ll be there” (#97) by Evelina Young.
