Week 304 – December 24th, 2016

Merry Christmas. I hope you’re enjoying the time with your family. In the meanwhile you can read some notes about this week’s edition of my chart. After incredible 13 weeks at the top Anouk has to leave the leading position (nearly a half year in total this year). Anouk’s songs can “only” be found from #3 to #5. New in the leading position is a well known artist. Kelly Clarkson is returning for the first time since February 2015 when she took the lead with “Heartbeat song”. “Nostalgic” climbed up one spot. New at the runner’s up position is US band Coin. Their signature song “Talk too much” (#2) also climbed up one spot. Last week’s #1 “Be my baby” (#3) dropped two spots and is still leading the Anouk songs in my Top 10. Next in line is “If I knew” (#4) which changed the spots with “Not a lovesong” (#5).

German band Glasperlenspiel are climbing to a new peak in this edition. Their song “Für immer” (#6, “For always”) is doing very well in its 2nd week in the Top 10. The last “old” song in my Top 10 is “Remedy” (#7) by Leslie Clio. From now on there are only Top 10 debuts in this part. The highest is by country star Carrie Underwood. Her song about “Dirty laundry” (#8) climbed up four spots and brings her another Top 10 hit from “Storyteller”. Also well known on my chart is Kate Voegele. Finally she entered the Top 10 with her first single from her new album “Canyonlands”. “Free & wild” (#9) climbed up five spots in its 8th week on chart. And last but not least Austrian band Tagtraeumer return with the album “Laufen” (#10) which climbed up three spots.

This week three songs share the greatest gainer award after 14 spots climb. Two times Selena Gomez is celebrating, because “Survivor” (#26) and “Body heat” (#27) are doing well, although “Sober” (#11) had to leave the Top 10 this week. The third one with the same amount of climbs is “River Lea” (#46) by Adele. Directly behind of “River Lea” the highest new debut can be found. And how could it be different than from the TV series “Nashville”. Maybe the strongest song from Season 3 is by Aubrey Peeples who had several Top 10 hits with songs from Season 2. Her new one is “Blind” (#47) which is marking a new direction in which she is going the show. I really like this song and it is absolutely possible that this song could bring her back into the Top 10.

The 2nd highest debut is by Lady Gaga. Since a while she is experimenting with her style and her new one is very different to her early singles. I’m not a big fan of her work, but over the years she had several songs I liked. First I wasn’t sure about “Million reasons” (#62), but already I’m enjoying listening it. At the moment it is hard to predict where it will end, but it could be a surprising hit for her.
