Week 343 – September 23rd, 2017

Last week Taylor Swift scored her 4th #1 on my chart. This week “Look what you made me do” (#1) defended its title. This song could sit solidified on the throne if there isn’t the duet of the moment. Cold War Kids and Bishop Briggs climbed up one spot with their powerful song “So tied up” (#2) which is maybe the best song from Cold War Kids. Do you remember “Can we hang on?” (#79) which had been my #1 back in July? In the following weeks “So tied up” should replace “Can we hang on?” as the bands biggest charting hit. “So tied up” should be the first duet at #1 since JoJo feat. Wiz Khalifa reached #1 with “F*ck apologies” back in September 2016. New at the podium is Tagtraeumer. You’re right really new in these spheres aren't they. They replace their former #1 “Straßenlaternen” (#4, “Street lights”) with “Himmelblaue Couch” (#3, “Sky blue couch”). And as a third song in German in my Top 5 you can find “Gift” (#5, “Poison”) by Madeline Juno.

The next half of my Top 10 is opened with two former #1’s. “Still in love with you” (#6) by Norma Jean Martine dropped out of my Top 5 by one spot. She is followed by Portuguese singer Aurea. Her former #1 “Killer” (#7) also dropped one spot. Next in line are two new editions to this week’s Top 10. The highest one is by Pink. “What about us” (#8) climbed up four spots. Also up four spots is dialect pop from Austria. JackTheBusch is doing very well with his gem “Blinder Passagier” (#8, “Blind passenger”). “Blinder Passagier” is a very strong song about the end of a relationship. The last but not least song in my Top 10 is “Restless” (#10) by Cold War Kids.

Last week saw 18 new entries with the highest debut by Kelly Clarkson. Her new single “Love so soft” (#18) sprinted up 13 spots and is now in my Top 20. Last week she was followed by Kate Voegele’s “Catch me on fire” (#19). This week Kate Voegele also climbed up 13 spots with this song and so she is still one spot behind. The 18 new songs aren’t topped this week, but when you look over my chart you’ll find another massive 17 debuts. But before I write something about this week’s debuts I’ve to point out that Ed Sheeran climbed up 21 spots with his new single “Perfect” (#39). This song is this week’s greatest gainer.

So let’s hop on this week’s debuts. Back in the 1990’s Eurodance was a big factor in the music industry. Back in 1992 German dance project Snap! had a massive hit with “Rhythm is a dancer” which is among my all time favourites. Now the German producer Alex Christensen who is well known for his work as U 96 and Jasper Forks is going to release his new album “Classical 90’s dance” where he is covering songs from the 1990’s with The Berlin Orchestra. The first single out of this album is Snap!’s “Rhythm is a dancer”. I really like this version which is sung by the winner of the first season of the Voice of Germany Ivy Quainoo. “Rhythm is a dancer” (#40) is the highest new entry.

Another song from the past found its way into my hot new singles of the week. It is a song from the 1980’s. Recently Norwegian band A-ha did a MTV unplugged. While their first single out of this session “This is our home” failed to reach my chart their 1985 smash “The sun always shines on TV” (#48) got its debut in a duet version with Norwegian singer Ingrid Helene Håvik. I really like the voice of Ingrid Helene Håvik and how this song is interpreted. Both “The sun always shines on TV” and “Rhythm is a dancer” should do well on my chart and become the biggest covers since 2011.

Between these two “older” ones there are three more debuts within my Top 50. Taylor Swift is still topping my chart, but with “…Ready for it?” (#44) her next single got its debut. Looking at the debut spot I’m not really ready for this song, but I expect that this song will sprint up the chart in the following weeks. Last week Kelly Clarkson got the highest debut with “Love so soft”. This week she is debuting with the next one from her new album. “Move you” (#45) isn’t as infecting as “Love so soft”, but I’ve to point out the same as for Taylor Swift. This song should be ready for reaching the higher parts of my chart. And I shouldn’t forget former One Direction singer Niall Horan. He had a little chart hit with “Slow hands”. This week he returns with the strong ballad “Too much to ask” (#46). Also between the “older” singles German LEA can be found with her newo one “Leiser” (#47, “Quieter”) where she describes a not working relationship.

But beside these new songs in my Top 50 there are still two more debuts within this part of my chart. The next one is by LOTTE. Earlier this year she had her chart debut with “Auf beiden Beinen” (“On both feets”). This week she returns with her next single from her debut album “Querfeldein” (“Across country”). “Pauken” (#49, “Timpani”) is a quite interesting song and should bring her among my top songs. She is followed by Canadian singer Lights who recently debuted on my chart with “Skydiving”. This week she returns with her recent single “New fears” (#50) which is a very strong song.

Other debuts are “Kokon” (#72, “Cocoon”) by Mister Me, “How could I love you?” (#73) by Little Hours, “Troubled” (#74) by Elephante feat. Deb’s Daughter, “Stranger’s kiss” (#91) by Alex Cameron feat. Angel Olsen, “Too dumb to die” (#93) by Green Day, “Ich glaub daran” (#95, I believe in it”) by Laurenz, “I’m feeling you” (#96) by Rak-Su, “Lose my mind” (#97) by Dean Lewis and “Cameo” (#98) by Sam Tsui.
