Week 342 – September 16th, 2017

Taylor Swift only waited two weeks before reaching #1 with “Look what you made me do” in its 3rd week on chart. She replaced Austrian band Tagtraeumer who stayed at the top for only one week with “Straßenlaternen” (#2, “Street lights”). While “Straßenlaternen” dropped one spot Tagtraeumer have now two songs in my Top 5. They climbed up two spots with their recent hit “Himmelblaue Couch” (#4, “Sky blue couch”). Between these Tagtraeumer songs and new at the podium is “So tied up” (#3) by Cold War Kids feat. Bishop Briggs. I like this song a lot and it is definitely worth for #1. We will see if Cold War Kids could replace Taylor Swift at the top to grab the bands 2nd #1 hit. While this song is now in my Top 3 former #1 “Still in love with you” (#5) by Norma Jean Martine dropped two spots.

The 2nd half of my Top 10 is opened by another former #1. Portuguese singer Aurea dropped two spots with “Killer” (#6) which is definitely her best song in years. And I absolutely love her recent album “Restart” which is giving her at the moment two Top 10 hits. Her other song in the Top 10 is “Blind woman” (#10) which also dropped two spots. Between these songs is “Gift” (#7, “Poison”) by Madeline Juno. I’m enjoying this song more and more with every listen. So expect this song for reaching my Top 5 by next week. Then there is Kate Voegele. Her latest #1 “Don’t count me out” (#8) dropped one spot and is on its way out of this part of my chart, but don’t be sad, because she is debuting with two songs this week. And last but not least Cold War Kids are now in my Top 10 with a 2nd song from their album “LA Devine”. “Restless” (#8) did well this week with a three spot climb.

You can find the highest debut just outside my Top 30. It is by a well known artist who had six #1’s since 2011. Of course I’m writing about Kelly Clarkson. Her 1st single “Love is soft” (#31) from her upcoming new album “Meaning of life” is leading 18 new entries. As most of her songs in the past “Love is soft” is a very good song. Due to fact that the school started this week I hadn’t as much time to listen to music as over the past weeks. This is the reason why she hasn’t debuted higher, but by next week this song should be in my Top 20 at least.

Kelly Clarkson is followed by another well known artist on my chart. I mentioned it before that Kate Voegele is debuting in this edition with two more songs. Her first one is “Catch me on fire” (#33) which is pretty catchy. This song is a sure shot for the Top 10 for me, but the time will show when this song is entering my top songs. Her 2nd debut this week also reached my Top 40. It is “Sun will rise” (#36) which isn’t as energetic as “Catch me on fire”, but Kate Voegele has shown in the past that these songs also have the chance to reach very good spots. So I’m really looking forward how this song will develop. These are my Top 50 entries. Also in my Top 50 is the greatest gainer. This week this award goes to two songs. The higher ranked one is “Drummer boy” (#34) by MisterWives. The other one is “Perfect places” (#45) by Lorde. Both songs climbed up 14 spots.

The next debut is British superstar Sam Smith. He’s well known for his hits “Stay with me”, “Money on my mind” and for the James Bond title track “Writing’s on the wall” as well as for “La la la” where he was featured on the Naughty Boy track. But what have these songs in common? All these songs never debuted on my chart. He’s only chart hit before this week had been “I’m not the only one” (peaked at #38 in 2015) which hadn’t been a big hit in Austria and German. Two and a half year later he debuted with “Too good at goodbyes” (#56). This song has a very good chorus and a remarkable refrain. So it is absolutely possible that this one will outperform “I’m not the only one”.

One spot behind you can find the first hit by French project Klingande on my chart. Back in 2013 they topped the Austrian Top 40 with “Jubel” for three weeks. This week they returned with a cover of the 2011 smash “Pumped up kicks” by Foster The People who recently had their first chart hit with “Sit next to me”. Back in 2011 “Pumped up kicks” failed to enter my chart although I liked the refrain of this song. Now this dance version by Klingande immediately got my attention and “Pumped up” (#57) got a good, but no outstanding debut.
