Week 389 – August 11th, 2018

It only lasted three weeks for US band LANY to score the bands first #1 with their recent single “Thru these tears” (#1). It is interesting to see that they outperformed score artists. So Taylor Swift or Kelly Clarkson had no chance this week. Taylor Swift is completing this week’s Top 3 with two more songs. Former #1 “I did something bad” (#2) dropped one spot while “Don’t blame me” (#3) is holding its spot. Also stable is “Heat” (#4) by Kelly Clarkson which should reach the Top 3 by next week. Last week up to #2 and now dropping down three spots is “Don’t go breaking my heart” (#5) by 90’s boyband heroes Backstreet Boys.

Still opening the 2nd part of my Top 10 is former #1 “Angels on my shoulders” (#6) by Norma Jean Martine. Up one spot is the other Top 10 hit with an involvement by Norma Jean Martine. The Aslove track “So high” is now at #7. This song switched the spot with “Not the only one” (#8) by Kate Voegele. Up seven spots and new in my Top 10 is “Whole lotta woman” (#9) from the album “Meaning of life” by Kelly Clarkson. “Verdammt lang her” (#10, “Damn long ago”) by Andreas Gabalier is rounding out this week’s Top 10.

Outside the Top 10 there you can see a lot of action this week. Four songs climbed up 17 spots and these songs have to share this greatest gainer of the week award. These songs are “Mi parli piano” (#59, “Talk to me slowly”) and “Le cose chen penso” (#60, “Things that I think”) by Emma, “Lie like me” (#61) by Ward Thomas and “High on life” (#62) by Martin Garrix feat. Bonn. All of these four songs are charting higher than the highest debut of week which can just be found in the Top 70. This highest debut is by German singer Leony who had released her debut single “Surrender” back in October 2017. Now she returns with the follow up, which is in my eyes even stronger. With “Boots” (#70) reached my chart for the first time. Be ready that this song will reach my Top 50 very soon or even better.

The 2nd best new entry is country pop from Northern Ireland. British country music is getting better in this days with Ward Thomas’ new single “Lie like me” as a good example, but back to Northern Ireland. I’ve not charted songs from this country for several years now. Catherine McGrath has moved to London to work on her debut album “Talk of this town”. “Wild” (#73) is her third out of five regular singles from this debut album. “Wild” is a really good country pop song which should do well in the British country scene and maybe this song or the follow up singles “Lost in the middle” (which is a possible new entry in the future) or “Back home” (I should give this song a listen in the next days) which just has been released as a single two days ago could bring her to the notebooks overseas. “Wild” is followed by two more album tracks of the last Tagtraeumer album “Unendlich eins” (“Infinitely one”). These songs are “Sicherer Hafen” (#74, “Save harbour”) and “Bonnie & Clyde” (#75).

Among the other debuts there are several well known artists. Let’s start with 80s icon Boy George. He and the Culture Club are returning with “Let somebody love you” (#82). This song is definitely worth listening and maybe this song will be Boy George’s biggest hit on my chart. Then there is the king of Rock’n’Roll. Elvis Presley can be found for the first time on my chart. His “actual” single “When no one stands alone” (#84) features his daughter Lisa Marie Presley. It is taken from his new compilation album “When no one stands alone”. This song had been on his 9th album “How Great Thou Art” which had been released back in 1967. Also well known is German DJ Zedd. His new single “Happy now” (#85) features Irish singer Elley Duhé who is debuting with this song. With a recent Top 10 hit in their pocket Sigala returns with “We don’t care” (#86) where the feature The Vamps who actually have a hit in my Top 40 with “Just my type” (#32). Then there is “Don’t leave me alone” (#87) by David Guetta feat. Anne-Marie.

Other debuts are “Lie” (#83) by NF, “Underwater” (#88) by Cody Simpson & The Tide, “It’s on you” (#89) by Cailee Rae, “Picture” (#92) by Karen Harding and “Over my skin” (#94) by Tiffany Young.
