Week 399 – October 20th, 2018

This week I can make a new entry to my record book. An extremely rare thing occurred which is that a song outside my Top 5 climbed all the way to #1. Until this week this happened four times. On #4 is “Blue jeans” by Lana Del Rey which climbed from 7 to 1 back in March 2012. In May 2012 Emma climbed from 9 to 1 with “Non e’ l’inferno” (It’s not hell”). The 2nd biggest climb to #1 is “Second chance” by Peter, Bjorn & John back in June 2011 with a climb from 16 to 1. Holding the record is Celeste Buckingham with “Run run run”. This song climbed from 19 to 1 back in July 2012. It lasted more than six years before another song did such a climb. Now German band Ohrenpost is joining this club with an 8 to 1 climb with their 1st #1 hit “Halt nicht fest” (#1, “Don’t hold on”) on my chart.

Last week’s #1 “You” (#2) had no chance and dropped on spot. Also attacking the #1 is Paul McCartney with “Fuh you” (#3) which is his 1st podium on my chart with his first charting hit after a six spot climb. Dropping two spots, but still in my Top 5 is Emma with “Mi parli piano” (#4, “Talk to me slowly”). Also down two spots is “Rough diamonds fall” (#5) by Luke Sital-Singh. Just outside the Top 5 is former #1 “Thru these tears” (#6) by LANY who are debuting this week with the B-side “I don’t wanna love you anymore” (#77). Next in line is Annalisa with “Le parole non mentono” (#7, “Words don’t lie”). Down three spots are the two leading country pop songs. First to mention is “One more red light” (#8) by Cassadee Pope. The other one is “Wild” (#9) by Catherine McGrath. And last but not least let’s welcome back Avril Lavigne. She climbed up five spots with “Head above water” (#10).

The greatest gainer of the week is one more time “Let you love me” (#38) by Rita Ora. This week she climbed up 18 spots. The highest debut is by US producer team Phantoms featuring Vanessa Hudgens. They just missed my Top 50 with “Lay with me” (#51). I really like this song and it should do well over the next weeks. Directly behind is the 2nd highest debut. This song is definitely a reminiscence to the 1980’s which could have been a big hit in the past, but is an actual song which will be overseen by most of the audience. Actually New Kids On The Block, Salt-N-Pepa, Naughty By Nature, Tiffany and Debbie Gibson are touring together and now they released the single “80’s baby” (#52). For all these artists it is their first chart appearance on my chart. In Austria New Kids On The Block charted for the last time back in 2008 with “Dirty dancing”. Salt-N-Pepa only charted two times in Austria and the last time had been back in 1990 with “Let’s talk about sex!” which reached #1. Tiffany only reached once the Austrian chart with “I think we’re alone now” (peaked at #24 back in 1987). Naughty By Nature and Debbie Gibson failed to enter the Austrian chart. Therefore the chance is high that this song will never enter the Austrian chart.

Other debuts are “Two punks in love” (#53) by Bülow, “Sweet but psycho” (#54) by Ava Max, “1999” (#55) by Charli XCX feat. Troye Sivan, “Another night” (#61) by Alex Christensen & The Berlin Orchestra feat. Anastacia, “Consequences (orchestra)” (#67) by Camila Cabello, “True colors” (#94) by XO Cupid feat. Maya Avedis, “Thursday” (#97) by Jess Glynne and “Bones” (#98) by Ella Poletti.
