Week 475 – April 4th, 2020

For German band Die Ärzte this week is their 2nd at the top with “Ein Lied für jetzt” (#1, “A song for now”). Sure this song won’t be the biggest all-time hit, but on the other hand it is the song of the time and so “Ein Lied für jetzt” will stay at the top for some more weeks. Still in the hunt is the dethroned “Physical” (#2) by Dua Lipa. Also doing well is “Blinding lights” (#3) by The Weeknd in its 16th week. All these songs have in common that they didn’t move this week. The next non-moving song is in at #4 which is “Richtig falsch” (“Right wrong”) by Austrian Tina Naderer. New in the Top 5 is Mark Forster with his recent single “Liebe” (#5, “Love”) which hasn’t got much airplay, but I’m sure this will happen in the near future.

Up three spots and knocking at the door to the Top 5 is the latest Taylor Swift single “The man” (#6). Taylor Swift is followed by Swedish singer Isak Danielson. He can celebrate his first Top 10 smash with “I don’t need your love” (#7). I absolutely fell in love with this song and this one could be a surprise #1 as “Ein Lied für jetzt” is. Next in line is former #1 “Before you go” (#8) by Lewis Capaldi. This single is followed by two more new songs in the Top 10. Let’s welcome “Smiling” (#9) by Alanis Morissette. I’ve pointed it out before, but this song is such a reminiscence to her older work and I love it. This song and “I don’t need your love” will fight for #1 for several weeks in the future. The last but not least new song in the Top 10 is “All we need is love” (#10) by Stefanie Heinzmann feat. Jake Isaac.

The greatest gainer of the week is “Me quedo” (#33, “I stay”) by Aitana & Lola Indigo. Both participated in the same season of “Operación Triunfo” and have now a decent career in Spain. This song climbed up 21 spots in this week’s edition and should reach the Top 20 within the next weeks. The highest debut can be found just outside the Top 40. It is the latest single by Selena Gomez. Her song “Dance again” (#42) is leading three new songs. “Dance again” is followed by “Break my heart” (#43) by Dua Lipa. This is definitely interesting because with “Break my heart” she has now another Top 50 hit in her portfolio while before “Physical” and this song she had only minor success on my chart. Next new song in line is “Break up song” (#44) by British girl band Little Mix. This is also surprising because although they had success in Great Britain I’m not really into their music, but this song has something that I couldn’t resist.

Other debuts are “Malade” (#57, “Sick”) and “De honte et de pardon” (#58, “Shame and forgiveness”) by Cœur de Pirate, “Scheiss Corona” (#60, “f*ck Corona”) by The Happy Disharmonists and last but not least “Neon” (#90) by Lykke Li.
