Week 500 – September 26th, 2020

I can’t believe that this is the 500th edition of my chart. It is like yesterday when I decided to do my personal chart again and when former Austrian Band Anj Major Dude got the premier #1 with “July July”. This has been their only #1 back in 2011. They only other time they charted was when they placed the Nirvana cover “Heart shaped box” down the chart. Over the years I discovered several artists who are now core artists for me, but hardly known outside my music bubble. One of these artists is Emma who has scored 11 #1’s. Her first one has been “Tra passione e lacrime” (“Between passion and tears”) back in 2012. Her latest #1’s have been “Quando l’amore finisce” (#18, “When love ends”) and “Luci blu” (#20, “Blue lights”). And with this week’s edition she is debuting with her latest single “Latina” (#60) and two more songs “Mascara” (#59) and “Fortuna” (#61, “Luck”) from her album Fortuna.

Without further ado let’s have closer look at this historic Top 10. Last week Taylor Swift got the crown for a 3rd week in a row. This week she is defending the title with “Cardigan” (#1) and she now has four songs in the Top 10 with one song on the waiting list. The 2nd highest ranked Taylor Swift song is “Miss Americana and the heartbreak prince” (#3) which is definitely ready for a takeover. “Paper rings” (#7) climbed up two spots and “Exile” (#8), her duet with Bon Iver got the premier week within the Top 10. For Bon Iver it is also their first Top 10 hit. Heavily knocking at the door to the Top 10 is my country #1 “Betty” (#11).

Alanis Morissette - another core artist of mine - is still caught at the runner’s up spot with “Reckoning” (#2). Dropping down one spot is another well-known artist. LANY lost their spot with their emotional “If this is the last time” (#3). Back in the Top 5 is Liam Gallagher with “Sad song” (#5). He switched the spot with the top ranked cover which is “What’s love got to do with it” (#6) by Kygo feat. Tina Turner. Not only “Exile” premiered in the Top 10. There are two more songs which are for the first time in this part of the chart. Let’s welcome “90 days” (#9) by Pink feat. Wrabel and “Midnight sky” (#10) by Miley Cyrus which is also the greatest gainer of the week after climbing up 12 spots.

What is a historic chart worth without notable debuts. I believe nothing and so here I can point out that there are 17 debuts and several of these can be found within the Top 50. The highest debut is by Kesha. Back in 2009 she debuted with her smash “Tik tok”. Back in these days I didn’t really liked this one, but the time goes on and I can say that this song isn’t as bad as I thought. This week she returns for the first time in years with a new single. “Little bit of love” (#17) is the first song in a while with a Top 20 debut which is really nice for her. The 2nd highest debut goes to French artist Wejdene. Her single “Coco” (#22) is her 2nd big hit in France following “Anissa” earlier this year. The theme of both songs is the same, but I definitely prefer “Coco”. Also debuting in the Top 50 is Clean Bandit. Their new song “Tick Tock” (#35) is a collaboration with Mabel who had her breakthrough last year with “Don’t call me up” and 24kGoldn. “Ladida (my heart goes boom)” (#37) is the highest cover debut by Crispie & Ilira. The last but not least debut within the Top 50 is “Ice cream” (#40) by Blackpink feat. Selena Gomez. I know that most people don’t like this song, but I like the music by Blackpink and Selena Gomez and so it can’t really be a surprise that I’m charting this one.

Other debuts are “Somebody that I used to know” (#62) by Three Days Grace – another cover –, “In and out of love” (#79) by Melanie C, “I’ll come back” (#87) by AVEC, “Intimacy” (#89) by Caroline Jones, “No me llevas” (#92, “You don’t take me”) by Marquess, “House with no mirrors” (#93) by Sasha Sloan, “Only you” (#95) by DJ Gerrit, “Losing you” (#97) by Wonho and “Родена с късмет” (#98, “Born with luck”) by Mihaela Fileva.
