Week 497 – September 5th, 2020

Last week my Top 2 was all about unfulfilled love. “Love song” (#4) by Australian Daryl Braithwaite reached the runner up spot, but this week it dropped two spots. “Sad songs” (#3) by Liam Gallagher was in its 5th chart topping week, but also dropped two spots in this week’s edition. So the way was free for a new #1. And it goes to Taylor Swift. While her album “Lover” is still waiting for a #1 hit her new album “Folklore” has now one. “Cardigan” (#1) climbed up 8 spots and is now her 1st #1 since “I did something bad” (#1 for 3 weeks) back in 2018. LANY’s single “If this is the last time” (#2) has a similar theme as former #1 “If I knew” by Anouk. Therefore it can’t be really a surprise that this song is now ending in the Top 3. But where are the songs by Italian singer Emma you may ask. Definitely not in the Top 5 because the last spot is going to Austrian act Edmund and their single “Auf amoi” (#5, “At once”).

Up two spots is “What’s love got to do with it” (#6) by Kygo & Tina Turner. Maybe Kygo is entering the Top 5 by next week, but I’m not sure if the others give up their spot on a voluntary basis. Next in line is the first and only (!) song by Emma in the Top 10. Former #1 “Quando l’amore finisce” (#7, “When love ends”) dropped four spots. Emma is followed by Alanis Morissette with one of her latest singles “Reckoning” (#8). This week’s Top 10 is rounded out with two new songs in this section. First to mention is the LÉON’s comeback with her single “And it breaks my heart” (#9). The other one is “Miss Americana and the heartbreak prince” (#10) by Taylor Swift. For now she has two songs in the Top 10 from two different albums.

As this week’s edition doesn’t see a lot of debuts and movement the greatest gainer only climbed up 13 spots which is “Schwarze Wolken” (#39, “Black clouds”) by LEMO. The highest debut is by US band NIGHT TRAVELER and their single “Watching you” (#84). Other debuts are “Take you dancing” (#86) by Jason Derulo, “Drop dead” (#87) by Holly Humberstone, “Un dia (one day)” (#89) by J Balvin & Dua Lipa & Bad Bunny & Tainy, “For a second” (#94) by Michael Schulte and “Brother Louie” (#95) by VIZE & Imanbek & Dieter Bohlen feat. Leony.
