Week 499 – September 19th, 2020

Taylor Swift is blocking the #1 once again with her recent smash “Cardigan”. It is a good song, but I’m not sure if this song will reign a forth consecutive week. New at the runner’s up spot is Alanis Morissette with “Reckoning” (#2). This would be a good replacement, but Taylor Swift’s “Lover” album cut “Miss Americana and the heartbreak prince” (#4) also climbed up five spots as “Reckoning”. Caught between is “If this is the last time” (#3) by LANY. The only song beside “Cardigan” holding its spot in the Top 10 is “What’s love got to do with it” (#5) by Kygo feat. Tina Turner.

Down three spots is long time #1 “Sad song” (#6) by Liam Gallagher. This is no good sign, but I doubt that “Sad song” will leave the Top 10 in the very near future. Directly behind and up one spot is “And it breaks my heart” (#7) by LÉON. She is followed by Austrian act Edmund and their Top 5 hit “Auf amoi” (#8, “At once”) which dropped four spots in this week’s edition. While “Cardigan” is holding its spot and “Miss Americana and the heartbreak prince” climbed up four spots her other song from “Lover” only climbed up one spot. Therefore “Paper rings” only can be found at #9. Rounding out this week’s Top 10 is “Love songs” (#10) by Darryl Braithwaite.

The award for the greatest gainer of the week goes to Swedish singer LÉON. Her latest single “Chasing a feeling” (#54) climbed up 25 spots, but failed to reach the Top 50. On the other side it is only a matter of time when she cracking this hurdle. After a good last week’s debut by Miley Cyrus’ “Midnight sky” (#22) you’ve to dig deep to find this week’s highest debut. I really have lost the overview about how many singles German singer Elif has released this year to promote her recently released album “Nacht” (“Night”). So I’ve looked over her singles list and so I can write that she has released nine out of 16 songs from her album “Nacht” as regular singles and to be fair her new entry “Aber wo bist du” (#82) is “only” single #8 and I’ve not listened to #9 yet. Maybe this one will debut in the future or not, because her singles from “Nacht” had been hit or miss for me.
