 Week 542 – July 17^th, 2021

A little bit more than two years ago (week 435) I debuted 23 new songs which had been tied for record with week 363. Week 542 is record breaking with 28 debuts. Unfortunately there can't be found any debut in the Top 20. So it will take a while before I'm writing something about these new songs.

As always let's start with the top songs of the week. In this record breaking week Taylor Swift took over with "Mr. perfectly fine" (#1). In the end it had been another hard decision with the better end for Taylor Swift. Olivia Rodrigo's "Good 4 U" (#2) just dropped one spot but could strike back next week. Up one spot and back into the Top 3 is "Drei Uhr Nachts" (#3, "Three o'clock a.m.) by Mark Forster & LEA. Also up one spot are "Chiamami per nome" (#4, "Call me by name") by Francesca Michielin & Fedez and "Dieci" (#5, "Ten") by Annalsia.

This climbing songs left former Top 3 hit "You all over me" (#6) by Taylor Swift feat. Maren Morris behind. Still doing well is "Electric" (#7) by Katy Perry which also climbed up one spot. Two spots up is Madelin Juno's "Tu was du willst" (#8, "Do what you want"). This song is still a contender for the Top 5, but who knows what is happening next week because of this week's new entries. And last but not least two former #1's are dropping this week. One spot down is "Wenn nur Liebe hilft" (#9, "If only love could help") by LEA and two spots down is "Nuda" (#10, "Naked") by Annalisa.

This week's greatest gainer of the week climbed up 25 spots and has been the highest last week's debut. I'm speaking about Ed Sheeran's latest smash "Bad habits" (#16). This is definitely a cool song which should end in my Top 10. Not far behind you can find this week's highest debut. It is the next single by British singer Maisie Peters. She recently reached the Top 5 with "John Hughes movie" (#33) which dropped 12 spots in its 18th charting week. This week she returned very strong with "Psycho" (#21). It took her since 2017 before she really began charting on my chart as well as on the official UK charts. If you haven't seen her video to this song you should definitely watch it. I hope that this one will do as good as her previous one.

I'm sure that you definitely know the 2nd highest debut. It is called "Schwarz" (#22, "Black") and is by LEA. You might think this is strange and you're not wrong. This song had been released as a regular single before, but LEA decided to re-release this song with German rapper Casper. Not only is the rap part different from the original also is the sound very different. So as I liked the original one it is no wonder that I'm charting this remix version. It is also interesting that this remix reached #7 in Germany and notable spots in Austria and Switzerland while the solo version never charted there.

The 3rd highest debut also managed to debut within the Top 30. It is "Alles in mir will zu dir" (#28, "Everything in me wants to be with you"). This song is by German star Sarah Connor. She started her career in the early 2000's. And her first hit had been "Let's get back to bed – Boy!". Until 2005 she reached the #1 in Germany five times including "Living to love you". Back in 2015 she released her 1st album "Muttersprache" ("Mother tongue") in German which became her most sold album. I personally haven't been her biggest fan and so most of her English songs I would have never charted. Her songs in German didn't do better. I only charted her twice in 2015 with "Bedingungslos" ("Unconditionally) and "Wie schön du bist" ("How beautiful you are"). Although "Wie schön du bist" was a big hit in Germany both mentioned songs failed to impress me that much. Six years later she returned very strong with a song I believe could end in the Top 10.

So these are the highest three debuts but there are six more debuts in the Top 50. In at #35 is "Chain my heart" by Topic & Bebe Rexha. Both German DJ Topic and US singer Bebe Rexha had been a hit or miss for me with their songs. Their current one could bring them at least in the Top 20 or even higher. The next best debut is a trash one. On the other hand sometimes trash is good. Most of you who aren't familiar with the 1990's German Eurodance songs and projects might not know this act I will talk about. Back in 1995 Jasmine Wagner started her career under the alias Blümchen with the Top 10 hit "Herz an Herz" ("Heart to heart"). She managed to reach the Top 10 four times in the 1990's and one time in the 2010's when fans tried to push her to #1 to prevent the winning song from DSDS (Germany seeks the superstar) to become #1. That failed but her career got a little push. Beside her 1990's hits under the alias Blümchen she failed to get major attention. Under Jasmine she had some hits too in the 1990's and in 2000, but since that she failed to push her career. And now she returned after German rapper FiNCH who is a big fan of her since the start of her career asked her for teaming up on a song on his new album "Rummelbums" as Blümchen. Their song "Herzalarm" (#45, "Heart alarm") had been released as a regular single and debuted straight in the Top 10 in Germany. So this song is her 1st regular Top 10 hit since 1997. This song and the video (!) are definitely a homage to her work in the 1990's. Although I'm really over this music period I adore this trash little anthem. This one could be the biggest surprise hit in 2021 if it would reach the Top 10.
