Week 591 – June 25th, 2022

The first half year of 2022 is now ending. The school year is also near its end and my chart sees a new #1. For Austrian singer Josh. it is his first time topping the chart. He climbed up two spots with “Von dir ein Tattoo” (#1, “A tattoo of you”). For me this is his best song, but unfortunately, he hasn’t reached the Austrian charts with it. Dropping one spot is last week’s top song “Run” (#2) by Morgan Wade. I’m still in love with this one, but her album cut “Last cigarette” (#11) is on its way into the Top 10. Completing the podium is “Fluss” (#3, “River”) by LEA. This song is followed by former #1 “Funke, Flächenbrand” (#4, “Spark, wildfire”) by Mathea. Climbing up two spots and reaching the Top 5 is Aitana with “En el coche” (#5, “In the car”). This now makes four songs which aren’t in English in the Top 5.

Next in line and dropping out of the Top 5 is “Something better” (#6) by Anouk. You just found out that Aitana reached the Top 5. “En el coche” isn’t her only Top 10 hit for the moment. She also reached the Top 10 with “Mariposas” (#7, “Butterflies”) with Italian Sangiovanni after climbing up seven spots. For Sangiovanni this is his first appearance in the Top 10. Up two spots is “Swimmingpool” (#8, “Swimming pool”) by LEA. These songs are followed by two former #1’s which are on their way out of the Top 10. The higher ranked one is “When you lose someone” (#9) by Nina Nesbitt. The other one is “She’s all I wanna be” (#10) by Tate McRae.

The greatest gainer of the week is “Message in a bottle” (#38) by Taylor Swift. This song climbed up 24 spots. Sure, I’m late with this song, but I charted songs from three different albums from her, so I found that this would be a little bit too much. Now this song is doing as expected. The highest debut is by US indie pop band Muna. They returned strong with their new single “What I want” (#51) from their self-titled album. Not far behind you can find the 2nd best debut “Overthinking” (#55) by Mabel & 24kGoldn. “Stranger things” and Kate Bush’s 1980s smash “Running up that hill” are mentioned everywhere in these days. So Canadian singer Rain Paris made a rock cover which debuts at #56. Now three rock covers by her – “Easy on me” (#19), “Toxic” (#63) and “Running up that hill” (#56) – can be found on my chart. Also debuting in the Top 60 is actress and singer Mckenna Grace with “You ruined Nirvana” (#60).

Other debuts are “La isla de Lesbos” (#84, “The island of Lesbos”) by Javiera Mena, “Disaster” (#85) by Conan Gray, “Not mad anymore” (#89) by Ashe, “Angst (irgendwann wird es besser)” (#94, “Fear (someday it will get better)”) by Lotte & DXVE, “Let me” (#96) by Jade LeMac and “Heaven” (#98) by Calum Scott.
