Week 604 – September 24th, 2022

Last week’s house cleaning is continued with more 13 more new entries and in total 100 debuts over the last six weeks. The last time when there were less than 10 debuts in a week where at the beginning of July. It’s absolutely insane and I can’t believe that there is one more debut in the Top 20 this week too. So, let’s start with the first things first.

Pale Waves are defending the crown with “Jealousy” (#1) once more, but they are under pressure. Last week’s top debut “Fette wilde Jahre” (#2, “Big wild years”) by Juli climbed up three spots and is now in the runner’s up position. They should do the last step by next week. Because of that Pale Waves’ “Lies” (#3) dropped one spot and is completing the podium. Also, down one spot is former #1 “Last cigarette” (#4) by Morgan Wade. “What he didn’t do” (#5) by Carly Pearce eventually reached the Top 5 in its 9th charting week.

Ali Gatie is knocking heavily at the door to the Top 5. His song “IDK” (#6) climbed up three spots. Directly behind you can find the highest ranked out of two new songs in the Top 10. Danish-Japanese singer Mina Okabe reached the Top 10 for the first time with “Every second” (#7). One spot behind there is the other new song. It is “Talking to yourself” (#8) by Carly Rae Jepsen. She is finally back in the Top 10 with surely her biggest hit in time. Austrian singer Esther Graf dropped with “Sad = sexy” (#9) five spots. “Lost without you” (#10) by Kygo & Dean Lewis is holding its spot.

As always, this information is followed by the one about the greatest gainer of the week. In German speaking countries singer/actress Nina Chuba is shooting through the roof. Although she had released singles on a regular basis since 2018, she reached the charts only once and that with a big bang (reaching #1 in Germany and Austria and #6 in Switzerland). Her song “Wildberry Lillet” (#60) has a fresh sound, but it is also criticized for its lyrics with the “want it all” attitude. I personally had little problems with the song too, but know it is the greatest gainer of the week. Not bad for a song I didn’t like at first.

Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi returns with a big debut. Last week three songs managed to enter the Top 20 and in this week’s edition Lewis Capaldi equalized. His song recently reached #1 in Great Britain and now he returned with “Forget me” at #19 on my chart. Maybe this one could meet his biggest hit the chart topping “Before you go” which reached #1 back in 2020. I also like the video and its reference to Wham!’s “Club Tropicana”. One more song debuted in the Top 50. It is “Closure” (#47) by Wrabel. Every now and then he is entering the chart. With “Closure” he has a potential Top 20 hit in his pocket.
