Week 619 – January 7th, 2023

It’s definitely a surprise that JuJu is still topping the chart with her single “Nie wieder sehen” (#1, “Never see again”). I’m not a big fan of her work, but this song has something special for me. Still in the hunt is “Danke” (#2, “Thank you”) by German 1986zig. Here is the big question if this song will ever reach #1 or if it will be blocked at #2 forever. Rounding out this week’s non-moving Top 3 is “Anti-Hero” (#3) by Taylor Swift. For the first time in the Top 5 can be found “I’m a mess” (#4) by Avril Lavigne & YUNGBLUD. Two spots down is “Girl at home” (#5) by Taylor Swift which is still her highest ranked one which never reached #1.

Looking at the next song I’m sure you will be surprised. Carly Rae Jepsen is climbing up again with her former #1 “Talking to yourself” (#6). I haven’t seen such a thing on my chart in a while. Next in line is former Top 5 hit “Bejeweled” (#7) by Taylor Swift. Directly behind you can find the highest of two new songs in this part of the chart. It is “In Flammen” (#8, “In flames”) by LEA. The next one is “Ghost of you” (#9) by Mimi Webb. Still a good song, but I think this week could be the last Top 10 week for this song. Also, this song is caught between the new songs in the Top 10. The 2nd one is “Get over you” (#10) by Dylan Conrique. For her this is a debut.

The award for the greatest gainer of the week goes to “Unwanted” (#49) by Pale Waves. This song climbed up 32 spots in its 2nd charting week. Not far behind is the highest debut. It is “Put a light on me” (#51) by Sam Ryder. Until now he had some success including the #2 hit “Space man” in the UK. Now his song “Put a light on me” is getting significant airplay all over Europe although this song hasn’t been released as a regular single, but this is only a matter of time. It failed to enter the Top 50 only by one spot. The 2nd highest debut is by US singer Leah Kate. She rose to fame in 2022 when she released “10 things I hate about you” which failed to enter my chart. This week she got her debut with “Life sux” (#58).
