Week 128 – August 10th, 2013

Hurray! Another edition of my chart brings a lot of changes in the Top 10 and four new songs in this section. Rising Girl feat. DJ Lil Dirty are leading the pack for a 2nd week with “I know you’ll wait for me”. I’m not sure that they will hold this spot, because there is new concurrence. Alanis Morissette’s “Spiral” (#2) sprinted up the chart. 11 spots better than last week makes her the biggest challenger. “Spiral” is her 6th Top 10 hit out of eight charting songs so far. The Top 5 is complete with “Emma” (#3), “Tschüss” (#4) which is blocking this position for the fourth consecutive week and “It’s only love” (#5).

Alanis Morissette’s jump into the Top 5 blocked the Backstreet Boys with “In a world like this” (#6) while her other Top 10 hit “Empathy” (#7) dropped two spots. She isn’t the only artist who scored two Top 10 hits this week. Kelly Clarkson is back in the Top 10. With two more songs! This brings her a total of 11 Top 10 hits. So far “Let me down” (#9) is doing a little bit better than “You can’t win” (#10). If you are counting one more new song in the Top 10 is still missing. This one comes from an artist who had no Top 10 hit before. The first single from the artist’s new album is an actual Top 20 hit. Selena Gomez’s song “Come and get it” (#11) only missed the Top 10 this week, because her 2nd single “Slow down” (#8) directly entered my Top 10. This catchy dance tune is ready to reach Top 5 at least.

So the best debut is a dance song. In which direction will the second best new entry go? It comes from an artist who had no charting hit although she had three chart hits in Austria this year. It’s Ellie Goulding. Her first big hit this year in Austria had been her Elton John cover “Your song”, because of the use in an commercial spot. The 2nd had been her massive world hit “Lights” and last but not least her dance stunner “I need your love”. All these songs missed my chart, but her latest single brings her chart honours. “Burn” (#33) is a very catchy dance song and is one of the two songs she placed on my chart this week. The other is her single “Figure 8” (#84) which debuted down the chart.

After some initial difficulties Anna-Carina Woitschak is climbing up with “Ich will diesen Sommer” (#63). In its 5th week this song is the greatest gainer of the week. Not far behind there are two more Jillette Johnson songs debuting this week. Her 3rd official single “Cameron” (#65) is doing a little bit better than the album track “Flood the ocean” (#66). Jillette Johnson had left big footsteps as her chart topping song “Torpedo” (#30) is still in the Top 30 in its 28th week. Two more interesting new entries can be found this week. Rising new star Bonnie McKee debuts with “American girl” (#54). This song is getting airplay in Germany, Austria and Switzerland which should bring her a notable chart position within the next weeks. The other one is “Best song ever” (#88) by One Direction. While Satin Circus is still in the Top 10 they are once more debuting down my chart.

Other debuts are “Gotta go” (#75) by Jason Clarke, “I knew you were trouble” (#88, an acoustic cover of one of my favourite songs this year) by Haley Ray, “Dreaming out loud” (#96) by Final State, “Boomerang” (#98) by The Summer Set and “My heart goes boom” (#99) by Miss Li.
