Week 129 – August 17th, 2013

Here it is. Countdown No. 129. Rising Girl feat. DJ Li Dirty are leading the pack for a third week in a row with their great song “I know you’ll wait for me”. They are blocking Alanis Morissette’s smash “Spiral” (#2). Satin Circus completes the podium with “Emma” (#3). Also doing well is Selena Gomez. Last week she debuted within the Top 10. This week she climbed up 4 spots with “Slow down” (#4). Kelly Clarkson’s “Let me down” (#5) also climbed up 4 spots while her other Top 10 song “Can’t win” (#10) is holding the position.

After a Top 10 debut last week there is a Top 10 debut this week. This one I haven’t seen coming. Avril Lavigne reached with this debut a 2nd Top 10 hit since 2011. I enjoyed her first two albums during the pre-chart area. Her 3rd album flopped for me and everybody who follows my chart would know that her 4th album produced only one Top 10 hit with “Everybody hurts” (peaked #4). A song that hasn’t been released as a regular single. With her latest single “Rock N Roll” (#6) she confirmed for me the way she began with the Top 20 hit “Here’s to never growing up” (peaked at #16). Hopefully her new album is as good as this song.

Outside the Top 10 worldwide smash hit “Wake me up!” (#12) by Avicii feat. Aloe Blacc is continuing his run by climbing up 6 spots with a good outlook to reach next week’s Top 10. General you have to go a little bit down the chart to find the next new entry. It comes from Anouk with “Pretending as always” (#37). Her previous two singles “Birds” (peaked at #19) and “Stardust” (peaked #30) flopped a little bit, but after buying her album “Sad singalong songs” I’m starting to enjoy these songs a little bit more. About three months ago she released three promotional videos to this album. These songs finally debut this week. Besides “Pretending as always” she debuts with “Kill” (#52) and “The good life” (#56).

“American girl” (#43) by Bonnie McKee is the greatest gainer of the week with only climbing up 11 spots. Before and after this song there are two more interesting debuts. The first comes from Maroon 5. Their last two singles I charted reached my Top 20. “Love somebody” (#38) has also the chance to reach this part and maybe this song goes into the Top 10. The other debut comes from Emma Stevens. Her cute folk song “Once” (#44) from her “Dreaming trees EP” brings her a solid chart debut.

Danny Mercer.
