Week 135 – September 28th, 2013

What should I say to my Top 5 this week? It is the same procedure as in the last two weeks. You can say that I’ve frozen my top songs over these last weeks. So Selena Gomez is again winning over Alanis Morissette with “Slow down” (#1). And “Spiral” (#2) is again better placed than “Rock N Roll” (#3) by Avril Lavigne or Anouk with “Pretending as always” (#4) who also is holding the spot. The only new song in my Top 5 is “Burn” (#5). This is Ellie Goulding’s first Top 5 hit on my chart. But I’m sure that next week there will be some changes. One of the reasons why I’m thinking about changes is that there are three new songs in my Top 10.

Two of the artists who placed new songs in my Top 10 had already Top 10 hits this year and for one artist it is a premier. Jillette Johnson reached the first time the Top 10 with “Flood the ocean” (#8) after the monster hit “Torpedo” (#49). “Cameron” (#11) her other Top 20 hit isn’t far behind but didn’t reach this week’s Top 10. Then there is Anouk. While “Pretending as always” is fighting for the top spot “Kill” (#10) made the last step to bring her “Sad singalong song”-album up to two Top 10 hits out of five charted songs. The only new artist in the Top 10 is Maroon 5. Over the last two years they tried it with several singles. Most of the time they run ended in my Top 20. “Love somebody” (#9) finally broke this bad habit.

Samantha Jade is swimming on a big wave. Last week “Firestarter” (#19) was the greatest gainer of the week. This week “Firestarter” entered the Top 20 which is one of only two songs which are new in this section. The other is the beautiful ballad “Army of me” (#18) by Christina Aguilera. For her it is the 4th Top 20 hit from her “Lotus”-album and maybe future 3rd Top 10 hit from this album. This week’s greatest gainer is Wingenfelder’s first chart hit “Klassenfahrt” (#51, "Class trip").

The highest new entry comes from Anouk. Her non-album single “Wigger” (#37) is debuting in the Top 40. This song is more typical her than most of the songs from her last album. I’m sure that this song is doing better than her Song Contest entry “Birds”. Also debuting within the Top 50 is Norwegian duo Envy. Their song “Am I wrong” (#43) has been released earlier this year, but now it reached my chart. It is a very cool track and absolutely worth listening.

Last year Emma was in my list of the Top 3 artists of the year. This year she had only one Top 10 hit, but with her new album and her first two single this could change. Once more I’m a little bit late with that, but I decided to chart the last songs from “Sarò libera” before I’m going to her new album “Schiena”. This week it’s time for this album. The 2nd single “Dimentico tutto” (#51, I forget everything) did a little bit better than the 1st single “Amami” (#52, Love me). Both songs have written hit all over the song (for me). So these songs should go up the chart very fast, like last week’s debuts by Ben Montague who did well this week.
