Week 138 – October 19th, 2013

One song from Anouk’s “Sad singalong songs” conquered the top of the chart so far. “Pretending as always” didn’t sound as sad as the album title suggest. It’s a very good rock ballad by her. “Pretending as always” (#1) is followed by Mic Donet’s “Going insane” (#2). This power R&B/soul track from his “Plenty of love” album is actually his highest charting song. He outperforms “Pray 4 rain” which reached #4 exactly a year ago. The podium is completed by Selena Gomez’ “Slow down” (#3). In general the Top 7 of my chart is older than usual as I wrote last week. None of these songs is less than 10 weeks on chart and the tendency shows up. On the other hand there are two new songs within the Top 10. Finally “Loving you” (#9) entered this section. For Melanie C it is her 1st Top 10 hit in my 2nd chart area. She had several hits back in the 1990’s and early 2000’s where I had done my first charts. For Matt Cardle “Loving you” is another big hit following “Anyone else” (#69) in the Top 10. The other song is “Miss Misery” (#10) by Alex Hepburn. For her it is her 1st Top 10 hit. The deep voice makes this song special for me. Maybe this entry is only the begin for something big.

“Firestarter” (#11) by Samantha Jade failed to reach the Top 10. So Samantha Jade has to wait for her 2nd Top 10 hit and the first since her #1 smash hit “What’ve you done to me” earlier this year. Storming into the Top 20 are two songs. First to mention is “Dimentico tutto” (#13) by Emma. Last year she had two #1 hits from her first album “Saró libera”. If “Dimentico tutto” is rising as fast as this song showed over the last weeks this is a sure shot for a #1 hit which could be her 3rd overall. Or could it be that Ben Montague gets his first #1 in a few weeks with “Love like stars” (#15) which climbed up seven spots this week. Also new in the Top 20 is “Look at me now” (#19) by Aurea.

For this week’s highest new entry you don’t have to go down the chart. This week this one can be found within the Top 20. At the end of September the Bundesvision Song Contest happened in Germany, but I had no time to show this contest. This is very bad, because I didn’t saw the performance by 17 year old Luna Simao. Her German soul song “Es geht bis zu den Wolken” („It goes up to the clouds“) debuts at #16. This song has written hit all over the song and could be a massive concurrence for Emma and Ben Montague for reaching #1. I absolutely love this song and you should listen to this song even you don’t understand what she is singing about.

Before writing over some other interesting new songs on my chart I’ve to write something about the greatest gainer of the week. Last week I pointed out that “Can we dance” (#34) by the new British boy band The Vamps could be massive the following week. This week this song climbed up 39 spots and confirmed my prediction. Let’s move on the new entries. While Christina Stürmer’s last two singles flopped a little bit on my chart her 4th official single “Ich hör auf mein Herz” (“I listen to my heart”, #56) brings her a solid debut on my chart. With a good video and more radio airplay behind than the mentioned singles this could be a bigger hit for her. Probably she reaches the Top 10 with this song. Then there is another song from the Bundesvision Song Contest. Pohlmann’s 2nd single “Atmen” (“Breathe”, #57) debuts only one spot behind Christina Stürmer’s new song.

Also getting a debut is Autumn Hill’s third single. “Fire” (#62) is following the bands 1st #1 hit “Can’t keep waiting” (#77) which debuted directly in the Top 10 this year. “Fire” is another strong song from this Canadian country band, but not as strong as “Can’t keep waiting”. In my opinion this is no #1 song, but it should reach Top 20 at least. Hopefully I’m right with this prediction in the end. Other new entries are “Disco love” (#71) by The Saturdays, “Walking on air” (#72) by Katy Perry, “Gone” (#83) by Celeste & Carmel Buckingham, “Zoom” (#91) by Jem, “Kill Bill” (#96) by Brown Eyed Girls, “Simple lovin’ ” by Haley Ray, “Hot & cold” (#98) by Jewelry and “Bon voyage” (“Have a nice trip”, #99) by Marlene.
