Week 194 – November 15th, 2014

This week my chart sang a way to often “I shake it off, I shake it off” and divested itself of Taylor Swift’s “Shake it off” (#3) which dropped two spots after reaching last week the top notch. This made the way free for a comeback by Hilary Duff. Oh wait “All about you” (#2) missed topping the chart by one spot for a 2nd week. So New Zealand Indie Pop band Broods climbed up three spots with “Everytime” (#1) and is now leading the pack. “Everytime” is the first #1 from New Zealand since the folk song “Love love love” by Avalanche City topped the chart in April and May 2011 for five weeks in two runs. My core artist Anouk dropped one spot with the beautiful “Places to go” (#4). The Top 5 is rounded out by the only newcomer in this week’s Top 10. Madi Diaz’s electronic Indie Pop song “Stay together” (#5) climbed up six spots and is a maybe the first contender for next week’s #1.

From #6 to #8 there hasn’t been a lot of action. All songs stayed at the same spot like last week. “Animals” (#6) by Maroon 5, “When you were my girl” (#7) by Matt Cardle and “Dancing as one” by Nick Howard failed to do better this week and to churn this week’s chart. Indie Pop gem “Shut up and dance” (#9) is in some troubles this week and dropped four spots. This makes it hard for Walk the Moon to stay within the Top 10 by next week. German band Juli is defending a spot within this part of the chart with tooth and nail. In its 15th week former #1 “Insel” (#10) is closing this week’s Top 10.

Natalia Kills’ “Trouble” (#11), Matt Cardle’s “Hit my heart” (#12) and Avicii’s “The days” (#18) are fighting with no holds barred to replace an actual Top 10 hit. At the moment I really believe that Matt Cardle has the best chance to get another Top 10 hit by next week. Greatest gainer of the week is Ariana Grande. The first two singles from “My everything” are slipping down the chart - “Problem” (#51) and “Break free” (#58) -, but she has another iron in the fire. Her promotional single “One last time” (#33) climbed up 47 spots in its 3rd week on the chart and you should better watch out for next week when her 3rd single “Love me harder” with The Weeknd is ready to enter my chart.

The greatest gainer of the week “One last time” is followed by this week’s highest debut. It’s “The heart wants what it wants” (#34) by Selena Gomez. Last year she had a chart topping hit with “Slow down”. “Come and get it” another dance pop song missed last year the Top 10 by one spot. Her latest release “The heart wants what it wants” is more a ballad and no dance song with which she had her biggest success on my chart so far. This solid debut brings Selena Gomez in a perfect position to pick up where she left off last year. Altogether “The heart wants what it wants” is the only debut within the Top 50. The 2nd best new entry is by one of my core artists. It’s “Resta ancora un po'” (#53, “Stay a little longer”) by Emma who released a live album with this as the only new song on this album.

Other debuts are “Light up the sky” (#81) and “Best of me” (#82) by Christina Aguilera, “Alone” (#83) by Selah Sue, “Let it go” (#96) by Crystalyne, “She likes girls” (#98) by Metro Station and “Soldier” (#99) by Virginia Ernst.
